Well it didnt start as on-road... but like Road Warrior earlier posted his, im in the process of converting HPI Firestorm to a drag truck, with a modded Hyper 21 8 port. Hoping it will run around 2.0-2.2 area.
slight off-topic.. Brent, are you the same Brent D on turbomustangs?

Your 2.0-2.2 range will depend on weight of the truck as well.
The .18 TZ won't really make that kind of power. Not sure what type of dyno stuff they use but if that small engine made that much power, they couldn't keep them in stock at all.

Guess you arent still using the F-cam then huh?lol! Big mustang guy myself, with a blowthru carb single turbo setup for my 1/8 mile car... but we wont get too off topic here.
As far as weight... that will be cut down as much as i can. Right now i have any extra weight shifted foward, and working on a new top plate to move everything foward even more to try getting the balance a bit more foward with putting the bigger mill in. Once i see how it all works, then i will go to carbon chassis and get rid of any extra weight that i can. Im guessing though, around 4lbs is as light as its gonna get, if even that low. If it doesnt go 2.0-2.2.. thats fine, as it will mainly be a 132' grudge truck and only really needs to be a 2.5 or so truck to beat who i wanna beat, but would be nice to not be too far off the pace for running some 2.0 index stuff if i go to any real races with it.
Dunno about the OS.. and dunno about the Hyper, but with the mods it has, supose to make pretty good power. Id hope with the power it has, if i can lay it to the ground it may run close to what im after. I was going high 1.90's back in 05 when i ran Drag cars (Walbern Prostock w/ modded Picco P5.. no official stuff, just had Outlaw ProMod and Rail classes), so im not new to getting down the track... just a whole new ballgame now converting a truck to do it.

To get old foam off your rim I would get a old large coffee can fill it up with lacquer thinner and soaked the tires in that for 4-6 hours then the foam donut should just come right off the rim. But this process will destroy the foam rubber drying it out. Why would you want to save the foam?? Try Kamikaze hobbies for the extra wide 1/10 scale tires.

That is what i do with my truck. I have a small flat tip that you work the edge of the foam loose and stick the tip in just a little bit and keep turning it. It will take about 5 min a wheel. If you go to fast you will rip the foam. Here is a pic of the tires and the screw driver for you to get a idea. A screw driver with a square shaft will tear the foam also. Then I put the tire ont the rim and squeeze some foam tac in and work it throught out the tire on both sides so you get a secure hold. They hold solid at 65mph on my 2 speed firestorm. Have had factory 1/8th foams explode at less on both the firestorm and cd-3 so it is a better hold in my book.

Nasty, the only other way of removing tires from rims is to boil them off in hot water. Takes about an hour and you should flip the tires every 15 min so both sides are saturated by the hot water. Use gloves to protect your hands and push the rim thru the donut. I did this once along time ago one foam donut came out perfect the other one was not as good but still usable. Nasty this technique is hard on your hands be careful so you don't burn them make sure you use heavy gloves.

as far as clutch bells go, i've been mixing and matching for quite a while.
as long as the teeth are the same pitch it should work (excluding traxxas)
you may have to shim sometimes or need a different bearing size but to me a clutch bell is a clutch bell.
hit up the local hobby shop and see what they got.

First of all, I want to salute Brent for starting this thread. Second, I want to salute ALL of the individuals that have made contributions to this thread and have made their own 'Nasty Big Block 1/10 Cars'. I've read this thread from the beginning to its present state over the past few days and, hopefully, I will be able to follow in all of your footsteps in the near future. It may take some time for me to do so but I will continue to follow this thread closely. In the meantime, I will continue trying to get myself and my girlfriend started in 1/8 Off-Road racing . Again, kudos to all of you.
