3 channel radio for winch?
a buddy of mine just got a scx10 with a 3m racing winch. but the radio is the stock axial 2ch radio.
i assume that he needs a radio with 3channel switch that has 3 positions.
but and i wrong? would a traxxas tq3 radio from a emaxx work? it's 3rd channel is a 2 position switch.

Yes you can mod a traxxas TQ3 for that. I just did one for my crawler so I could run the DIG. Just another toggle switch and a small amount of soldering.

DOES THE GT3 HAVE THE TEN MODEL MEMORY ?
DOES THE GT3 HAVE THE TEN MODEL MEMORY ?
honestly, im not sure why the gt-3 cost more than the gt-3b. i only bought the gt-3 cause i didnt want to wait for the cheaper one to get back in-stock.
and $60 for a 2.4ghz radio with 8 model memory-abs-expo and other nice features aint bad.
i have a few redcats(which use re-branded flysky radios) and some other rc's with flysky 2.4 rx's in them, and i wanted 1 radio for all of them.

RE: 3 channel radio for winch?
you have to have the controller with the winch also, without it you wont be able to run it with the radio.
i use the vr3 that came with my safari to run a winch. i just use the servo reverse to change directions on it.
the push button controller has a 3 position switch on it, 1 is out, 1 is neutral(3rd channel control) last is retract. i power it through the 4th channel power and ground from my rx, its plenty strong on 6 volts

that is NOT a hpi baja tho. its made in a factory over seas, and is nearly identical to the HPI design. but the motor and materials are different.
you can get the same thing also under the Rovan and King Motors name. i had a king motors version. not bad for the money.
many things, like those hpi clones, the cheaper 2.4 radios and many lipo are all made in overseas factories and then companies re-brand(or put their name on it) and sell it.
even the big companies take part in this to some degree. i have a hpi radio that is the same as a axial ax10 radio. neither company makes the radio. they are made in some factory and bought by HPI and axial....who slap some stickers on it.
it may seem strange, but it actually helps keep prices decent. if every Rc company and online shop had to manufactor every part themselves, then prices would go way up.

Yes re branding is popular among allot of products out there you would be surprised who really made that dvd or blue ray player you may have.

RE: 3 channel radio for winch?
got the GT3 radio today.
but things didnt go well.
bound it to my earthquake 8e. while trying to adjust the throttle trims the truck took off WOT, hit my hand and then the wall.
no damage to the truck, but my hand is sore and the radio was in said hand.
radio did not fair well[:@]
i have onwed many a radio, but this sucker was confusing to try and program. and it came with NO manual! I know the price was cheap, but come on!

ouch sorry to see that.. every time i adjust the trims i always set my truck so no wheels are touching the ground beacuse ive had somethin similar happen to me all though nothing broke when it happend to me i just had to run about 50yds to get my truck lol
PS. it looks like a little glue would do that thing wonders

RE: 3 channel radio for winch?
the thing is adjusting the trim should not have made the truck suddenly go WOT!
i may be able to glue the thing back, but i think buttons got knocked around inside. i dont think it will ever work right now.

i used an old futaba 3pd radio and the winch works fine, the 3pmx radio i bought used didn't even work so the place i bought it from is going to have it repaired. more on that later.
