Crawler
So I recently bought a venom crawler and it only came with a motor no esc...it came with a Novak 55t brushed. I was wonderin If I could put the motor with a vxl esc and make it work

RE: Crawler
no
VXL is brushless, only a few brushless ESC's allow running of brushed motors.
could just get a ESC like a HPI EN-1, traxxas XL-5(probably the better option), or some other 1/10th scale brushed ESC

RE: Crawler
the above is true
also, i have owned said truck, and i would stick with a good brushed system.
the XL-5 is nice cause its waterproof(blue one is) or the losi 12T is nice cause its lipo ready and has a crawler mode with drag brakes.

RE: Crawler
Unless the xl5 has a drag brake- forget it. Get a rooster. 40-50$ used. Drag brake is a must on a crawler, scaler too. Roosters work great, let ya run 2s lipo when you want, & are damn near idiot proof. Also, unless you plan on putting your crawler through mud or snow(what scalers are for), &, i dont know anyone who does, who the hell cares if it's waterproof? Someof these cats would stick an xl5 in everyhting.

RE: Crawler
This thread is kinda old, but if the VXL mentioned is the VXL-3S, it does run brushed motors, according to A-Main Hobbies:

RE: Crawler
Agreed 100%. I've never understood waterproofing a crawler...it's not meant to be a submarine. It's pretty cheap to find a good crawler specific ESC with a drag brake. Roosters are awesome and I also have one of those new Axial AE-2 ESC's in one of my rigs. It's the same one that comes with the wraith RTR and is programmable by a castle link. Those things can be found as low as 40 bucks if you really look around.
