Typically, people who build their own make it from something like a small engine(lawn mower sized) recoil spring. The ends are heated red hot and are rolled into their circle shapes with a pair of needle nose pliers. since spring steel is very hard, if you want to drill any holes in it, you'll need a cobalt drill bit. That also means that to cut it, you need either cutters made for hardened steel or a rotary tool with an abrasive cut off wheel.

IMO, you're better off buying pre-made leafs by Tamiya or rc4wd. They aren't terriblly expensive and they'll be identical.

The Tamiya springs seem to be prety poular with a lot of builders .
The tamiya leaf spring stays are getting hard to find I heard ?

Krazy Joe from the Rudeboyz is Building me a trailer , I happen to have the springs and mounts for it .
