Official Rock Crawling Thread
Well there seems to be interest again in rock crawling so I figure might as well make a thread on it, show off your crawlers (please keep the pics OF crawlers) give tips and ask questions. So lets start this off, go here to see my highly modded crawling clod : www.martyrproductions.com/projectclodcrawler.htm
Here are a couple quick pics of it.

Wow, it'd be awesome to build a rock crawler from scratch using custom parts. Just for a little information, can you provide links (if any) to some websites that sell some rock crawler parts or provide information about rock crawling trucks\parts? It might come in handy for potential builders if they decide to look into this side of R\C, in addition to being interesting reading.
By the way, sweet truck!!!

www.rcguy.com makes the gecko chassis, and www.rc4wd.com sells a bunch of custom plastic and cnc clod parts, and tires and wheels.

RE: Official Rock Crawling Thread
www.mudcow.com has vids of rock crawling (the best crawler I have seen in action). And I can make you links and steering set ups if you ever get a clod. I sell them on ClodTalk.
Thanks

RE: Official Rock Crawling Thread
is the paris a low end pipe? i need it to run really good at idle and have lots of low end torque. i was also thinking of putiing about 2ft of fuel tubing in a coil so it runs after it flips over.

It is just you, because the chassis is not long but the links are. The wheelbase on it is 14.5" and a longer wheelbase is better for crawling.

Everyone talks of this dirt digler.... Does he have any vids? Because I doubt nitro crawling. Or at least competive crawling that is.

RE: Official Rock Crawling Thread
OK i just watched some of the mudcow videos and now i'm gettin the crawlin bug
I see the x-factor was brought up earlier in this post,is it decent for makin a crawler out of? i always thought crawlers were electric? I have a tmaxx/emaxx/x-factor and was gonna sell the emaxx and x-factor but now i'm considering keepin the x-factor if it will make a "decent" crawler. Not to compete but just for haven a little crawlin fun!

RE: Official Rock Crawling Thread
The x-factor can be modified to be a good crawler, but its still wont be as good as a good electric because of the superior throttle control and max torque at 0 rpms. the reason i got it is so i can crawl all day and not for 10 mins, and still have a truck that is fast enough to be fun. btw, about the mudcow, its not thats its that great of a rock crawler(still very good though) its the driver, he is excelent and really seems to know what he is doing. in3ctiv3's chassis is much better just because it has 90 degrees of articulation. if you watch all the videos of mudcow carefully you will see that he is constantly 3 wheeling. its all in the driver.

Isphius....heres a question for you....have you ever heard of anyone converting a nitro truck(X-factor) to electric? The suspension on the x factor is basiclly the same as the clodzilla4 i used to have.
X-factor in one hand,E-maxx in other........put your hands together my friend!
Think it would work?[&:]

Yes and no Maxxoverkill, some people do use x-factor axles to crawl. I do hope to get vids of my truck soon but I need to get magnetic mayhems. I also got a Novak EVX for sale/trade if anyone wants one. JK is an excellent driver and his truck really influenced mine, you should see his new truck... the rockroach And Unruely I make 4ws set ups for people if you are interested. Just a thought. And thanks for all the feedback on my truck I am pretty damn proud of what it can do, just wait till I get vids.
Thanks

RE: Official Rock Crawling Thread
Hi Dirk Digler here! My ears were ringing and I had to get over hear to answer the question of how an XFactor does in competitive rock crawling. What I can tell you is this: there are two forms of rock crawling these days in the 1:1 scale world. Slow technical crawling, which was the original form of crawling. Now, you see more "rock racing" than anything. Competitive Rock Crawling has become a time and vehicle stength competition. You must "get through the course as quickly as possible without breakage!" What I have found with my two RC crawlers, a TXT-1 and my XFactor, is that one has advantages over the other in certain situations. I would tip my hat towards the XFactor in rock racing because of the powerful nitro engine that can shoot the crawler up the face of rocks at blazing speeds(compared to the TXT-1)under total control due to it's exceptional suspension design and axles width! It is also a fairly durble truck with stong axels and a tough tranny that can handle high speed runs through boulders that are larger than the XFactor itself. The TXT-1 is superior in the slow moving technical stuff. Nothing offers better throttle control and percise calculated manuvers than electric rc trucks. I have held crawling events with my XFactor and it consistantly places in the top 3(out of 25+ crawlers). It is a real performer in todays rock racing and I would trade it for the world....although, my newly modified TXT-1 is getting most of the attention these days. But I learned a valuable lesson yesterday with the TXT! When locking the diffs with JB Weld.....MAKE SURE YOU DON'T GET ANY JB WELD WHERE THE AXLE SHAFT SPINES INTO THE DIFFERENTIAL!!!!! Yes, I snapped an axle shaft and couldn't get the shafts out of the diffs because they were "glued" in. Now I have to buy new axles and a new diff!!!!

Hey Dirk
What have u done to the pipe on the X-Factor? The stock pipe looked like crap all scratched up and crap. So what did u add to make it look so much nicer and how is performance?
