Anyone got a Unimog?
Apparently unimogs are popular outside of the States. Does anyone on here have any good info on them? [link=http://www.rc-trial.com/modeltt/videa/modelhobbyt813/tatra813.avi]Unimog Video[/link] The R/C versions are a lot tamer than the full scale one. [link=http://www.rc-trial.com/]This site[/link] has some links to videos of full size versions if you can find them. The vid links were sent to me & I have to jump off here & don't have time to find them on the page. BTW, it's not in English & I can't get it to translate.
Grrr... The video link doesn't want to work now. [link=http://rc-trial.com/modeltt/videa/modelhobbyt813/hlavni.html]Here's[/link] the page I got it from.

RE: Anyone got a Unimog?
the rc version of the unimog is a dickie car it is really ****e but the body aint
you buy a tamiya xc chassis (aka tamiya pajero xb there are also many other versions to)
then place the unimog body from the dickie onto the xc
it looks very cool but the body is quite heavy so better springs are needed
ive done it and there more for scale than anything but they can clamber very well to
the chassis is solid axle rear and ind front

RE: Anyone got a Unimog?
I think the rig in the video is a man truck or a similar rig. Mogs usually have 4 or 6 wheels and solid axles. Here are some pics of full size: http://www.classicunimogs.com/unimog_photos.html
Also here is an rc: http://www.rccrawler.com/postlite762-unimog.html
They are amazing. They have a gear ratio of about 200:1. It also has hydrolic lockers all around. There are a lot of guys in europe that make scale versoins of many military rigs inculding mogs. They are used in scale truck trials. For more specific info do a search on unimogs; you should find many sites. Also there is the Pinzgauer. It also is amazing. It has the lockers and 4 or 6 wheel drive. It has a unigue suspension design that i can only desribe as a hybrid solid-independent suspension. Here is link to some pics: http://www.pinzgauer.uk.com/Gallery.htm
The bodies and parts should be available on the net.

RE: Anyone got a Unimog?
I just remebered some more facts. A unimog has portal axles. These gives it even more clearence, espeically under the axle and diff. I don't tihink that the xc chassis would work that well. It would be too low. Most guys use tlt axles or similar size with custom chassis. Most guys will get the body and design the chassis to resemble the original. checkout this forum for 1/87th scale rigs: http://www.tinyrc.com/forums/forumdi...?s=&forumid=92.

RE: Anyone got a Unimog?
alot of people in the big truck world use real mog axles for rock crawlers and serious trail rigs b/c of their high diff clearace and portal gear reduction. my main hobby is 4x4's so I see lots of mog axles added to various rigs. They are fairly strong too, making them good for high horsepower rigs. I would like to see some scale mog axles, that would be tight. I am new to this R/C hobby, and so far I really like it. It may get more attention than my full size hobby now!!! Everyone on here is really nice too, that is a cool part of the hobby. Lots of constructive posts and helpful info!

RE: Anyone got a Unimog?
Hi,
First off, there are a couple Unimog body sources for R/C, but none that will fit a Savage. You can buy a Bruder Unimog Toy and use the body on a Pajero-TLT-custom chassis and it'll look ok. You can also buy a Unimog shell from Germany, they come in many models but are extremely expensive. (hard plastic) Or you can buy the mentioned Dickie Unimog and use it's hard plastic body on a pajero or similar sized R/C. You can also make your own Mog lid, but this is a little more difficult! Below is an example of the Bruder body on an 8x8 TLT crawler.
Here's a picture of a home built mog body:
There are TONS of R/c Unimogs in germany. http://www.modelltrucktrial.de/ is a good place to start, click on Modellbau.

RE: Anyone got a Unimog?
This is cinda off topic but. My dad used to be in a 4x4 club for suzuki samurais..and one of the guys had a unimog...then painted it lika a cow and put a cow horn on it...so then it was a unimoog..lol it was and still is awseome. He had 48 inch military tires on it and miltary GI rear ands under it with low gears. He would just idle along the trail crawling over everything in its path.
