Default My First attempt at the Clod! Uh... Please help!

Ok, this is pretty funny... I spent a few nights making this and since i didn't really get much help from anyone out there about the size of the links and all, I went a little overboard! LOL!!

It actually works. Not well mind you but it works. I can actually climb steps straight up. The only problem is that it has Ohh... about 180* of articulation! LOL... Yes that's right, the front wheels can litterally flip completely over. LOL!

So anyway, On my way to making it much smaller! I could really use a guide as for the length of the links.

Also, if anyone has a template for a servo mount on the side of the axel that ould be great! Thanks, G.

Try to get the wheelbase around 13-15" (33-38cm), that seems to work for most people.

Lower it, you want the center of gravity as low as possible. Move the upper fastening of the damper closer to the center and the lower more towards the axles. You have to try around a bit.

Thanks guys. I have completely redisigned the chassis andlinks. I'm now working on the new servo mounts and getting my top links attached to the frame. With a lot of help from JK (MudCow designer/owner) I'm well on my way to a seriously aggressive crawler. Wheel base will be about 15.5" Center to center. Links are 172mm on the bottom and 162mm at the top bent to clear the Mag Maham and mounted on the top and bottom of the hub carrier. It will also have Cantilevers mounted to the rails and the axel support then to the shocks mounted on the side of the chassis.

Top part of chassis is 270 mm front to rear with a "box" under it that is 50mm high x 75mm front to back by 80mm wide. I'll post some pictures as soon as it's done. I'm headded to New Orleans for the weekend so it will not likely be complete until mid next week. Thanks, G.

Me too! I just finished the front suspension setup. Looks good so far. Now I just have to repeat that on the back end and I'm all set. I got out of work early today so If i do get it done before my trip I'l post the pictures. it finally stopped raining so I'm all kinds of excited. It rained for 42 hours straight. LOL...

ok you realy did go overboard, maybe these guy's can help you:
[link]http://www.clodtalk.com/[/link] these are "hobbycrawler's"
they know alot and are willing to help.
on the ather hand are these guy's: [link]http://www.rccrawler.com/[/link]
they are GOOD!! but they spend a lot of time and money to build a good crawler. my advise is: first look arround at these sites and build from there.
this is my crawler before i rebuild it

and this is the nicest scalecrawler i did ever see!!

OK, Here is a pretty good start... I am testing the 2 different ride hights. it's lower on the one side. I just rested the "UnFinished" body on the frame to give you a comparison to the previous version. And also the effective articulation with my TLT to help demonstrate...
Thanks, G.

Hey all. Back from New Orleans! Dude, they really aut to put a warning sign up when you get off the plane! That city is absolutely insane!

But anyway, back to the topic, I still have a lot of work to do. it is too high as stated and also it'sstill prety unstable. I'm not sure how to keep good articulation and not have it colapse on one side or another on load. Very frustrating! Any words of advise would be great! Thanks, G.

Ok, so i have been working on it nice and slow for the last few days and i am pretty happy with the results! No pictures yet but i will post tomorrow!

Articulation could be a little better but the stability is great! Of course now I'm having problems with my ESC. I'm running in Paralllel so I think it's a little too much for the ESC. They are 22t Mag Mahams so that puts a bit more then a normal 10T motor. May have to bite the bullet and get a Super Rooster! I'll keep you posted... G.

Ok, so here is the latest (3rd Version)
It's definately more stable now. A little too stable! The great news is that it is completely adjustable! i can move the shocks and get a ton more articulation if I want to and keep it like this for light crawling and general running around.

Hope you like it...

They are from the electrical dept at the hardware store. I actually switched to stiffer and thiner black ones though. They make alum ones and sell them at RC hopup stores too. They slide a little on the links so if you mount them in the middle of a link, you need to put somethign on the sides to stop them from sliding. If you mount them to the Eye link they will stay put though. Hope that helps... G.

Sure. Noproblem.

AND! Just thought I'd update this thread one more time....

I"M DONE!!!

Great articulation for crawling. Not overkill. and a new body. Basic! Didn't go wildwith the paint... LOL

Now I can be a monster truck or a crawler with the switch of the shock location!
Moved them back about 2" and it gave me a lower COG as well as about 30* more articulation on each side. It's now 65* on each side. Measured. Here are some pics...
