RE: E-maxx crawler
I have an E-Maxx as well, and a TLT-1. I don't think the E-Maxx is very well suited to crawling...my TLT-1 at 1/18th scale has more suspension articulation than my E-Maxx.
But I'm sure someone's done stuff and I too would love to hear about it.

RE: E-maxx crawler
The e-maxx does not have nearly as much articulation as most straight axel trucks do but I did install a 12 tooth pinion gear on it and I have locked both differentials and the truck has tons of torque.

RE: E-maxx crawler
but if he bought a e maxx obviously he wanted an emaxx. man i dont know what to tell you about the crawling thing. becouse of the drive shafts that go to the wheels you can only get as much articulation as they will allow. i know this is not what you want to hear but, you should not try to turn your emaxx into a dedicated crawler, it is alot better in other areas.

RE: E-maxx crawler
ya biker dude is right but if you were still wanted to try i have seen alot of people who turn there emaxxs in to solid axles and 4 link it but im sure you can still have fun with it how it is now
the problem with makeing a extreme crawler is that is all it is good for

RE: E-maxx crawler
maxxcrawler,
Don't get me wrong...I'm on your side...I have an E-Maxx and would love to turn it into a crawler. I think it can be done, because of all the power and it's sheer size. However, you would have more FUN doing is with something with solid axles. Articulation ins't everything.
That said, the E-Maxx sucks in articulation. When I saw your first pic, I said "whoah! How did he do that with an E-Maxx???", but then I saw your other front tire was off the ground...a lot. My TLT could do the same thing (adjust for scale) with all tires on the ground. Behold:
Since the truck's articulation kinda sucks, what I would focus on would be (and take this with a grain of salt...I am no crawling expert):
1. Center of Gravity.
2. Gear ration (lower!)
3. Get rid of the EVX or dump one motor. That ESC goes from 0 to fast with little in between.
4. Tires...softer and grippier.
I think it would make a good crawler. I for one would love to see someone do it without changing the whole thing around radically.
I personally find my E-Maxx dull...because it either can crawl over something (most things) with sheer power or it flips over. There seems to be no in between with that truck. That's why COG would be the most important upgrade, IMHO.
Good luck!

RE: E-maxx crawler
Yeah, i agree with mike01: i have an e-maxx, and i tried to get a good crawl, but its not the right truck. Go with some 4-wheel-steer, get rid of 4 of the 8 shocks, really high torque servos, and a body you dont mind to trash. (the e-maxx likes to flip off of rocks andd smash up that nice new body)

RE: E-maxx crawler
when you turn an emaxx into a crawler, nothing and i mean nothing can stop it, BUT there is alot of customizing you need to do, heres jsut what you need to do first, LOCK THE AXLE, like many people said here already, you may call it "fake" but that axle will be better than everyother axle out there, it will have supior groundclearence and will whomp everything else, then you have to 4 link it, which isnt that hard you just need some 3/16th rod some threaded ends and ball joints, after you make that you need a new chassis, which isnt that hard to make, and that is jsut the BARE BARE over veiw of what you need to do, and since you already got it, BUILD IT!!! it will take your time but once your done you will be unstopable...
the problem with leaving it all indepentdent suspension is when one wheel is fully articualted the rest goes into a "squat" which ruins the clearance.

RE: E-maxx crawler
I won't argue that the E Maxx is a great crawler, but its a all around good 'trail' truck.
So, heres mine! lol Four shock setup, BL, geared low with spool/spool.
I did not build mine for top speed or dedicated crawling, but it will serve me for all around trail stuff.
If your dedicated crawler isn't setup well I may crawl past you!
Nice link to the E Maxx CRAWLER atvrider...
Did I say TRAIL MAXX!
