RE: building my first crawler
There are several chassis's you can purchase. You need to figure out what your going to build your crawler out of (Clod, TXT, TLT). Then pick your chassis. If your handy at all I would suggest making your own chassis. It is a lot cheaper, plus you will learn a lot. But if you have more money than time I would suggest either utrcrc's v-Prime chassis for Clods or the Jefferson for TLT's. http://www.utrcrc.com/products.html

Take a look at the Gecko 60/40 pro. It has to be one of the nicest chassis around. Here is the link. http://www.rcguy.com/index.php

Hey jim, if you want to build your own, go with the stick style clod. 1/2'' and 3/8'' aluminum stock from hardware stores, your L.H.S. will probably have the rest of the parts to finish it up....... Easiest to builld and works great.....in my opinion.

RE: building my first crawler
Im a nitro guy but heve been looking into rock crawling for about a year now. I recently bought a used clod with no electronics except the motors. I figured i would scrap the chass and only use the transmissions. Have a sideplate chassis desighned on cad but im also a little in the dark about how to hook the trans to the chassis .

RE: building my first crawler
if its clear lexan then on the inside. darkest colours first, and wait inbetween thin coats of paint to let them dry properly. also WASH WITH SOAPY WATER BEFORE YOU PAINT, and make sure you get all the soap off and dry it properly. this way it will last a lot longer. get paint off your LHS, other paints do not work too well

RE: building my first crawler
buy a clod to start out with... they can take a pounding... there are several chassys you can buy but by far the chassy to get and it will only work with a clod is the "stick"...
you can find a write up on rccrawler.com on how to make your own "stick" chassy and the guy even put part numbers so buying the parts will be easy...
good luck on the build...
