Default Need some help from the crawler guys.

I want to build a custom rc, and I have the whole idea in my head, but I can't do it if I can't find the proper parts to build around.

I need a straight axle that will handle high speeds on either dirt/clay or asphalt, and a way to transfer power to it without a big bulky gearbox.

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated!

1.Are you talking about front AND rear axles or just rear? If you're looking for rear, RC4wd has as rear axle made for custom SC trucks.

2.How small exactly does the trans have to be? I know that RC4wd make some compact ones that fit on the motor.

3.I can't really give any advice unless I know a bit more on what you're trying to build and how fast you want it to go.

I'm trying to make a 1/10 scale dirt modified, frame and all. I'll be calling a friend of mine for blueprints for the 1:1 dirt modified that he builds, to build the chassis, but if I can't find a straight axle, the whole thing is pointless.

For the first link you posted, that might be what I need. I hope.

rc4wd also has scale dana 60 axles and you can make your own chassis/roll cage out of automotive brake line brazed or soldered

In the above link, is what I'm looking for. Can somebody tell me what axle and 4-link he's using, and how can I get the power to it? I want a 2-wheel drive, 4-link setup. Seeing his video, I can see that it will take what I want to throw at it.

That car use the rear axle of a HPI wheely king(I should know; I own one), which should work fine for your application. Wheely king axles are very strong and if you wanted to make it even stronger, there are upgrade steel gears available for them. The links that you use vary in length depending on your chassis. Shouldn't be terribly hard to put together the suspension setup. To power it you'll need to figure out the distance between the transmission and axle and find a truck that has similar length universal shafts.

I'm hand building an aluminum rod chassis, so driveshaft length shouldn't be an issue. And I think I will have to get the steel gear set, plastic will probably shred under the weight of the aluminum chassis and .040 aluminum body.

Thanks for the info!

The stock axle gears are aluminum.

Not sure if this will help, but I ran across this looking at ideas for SC trucks. I don't really like what manufacturers have out so far.

Thanks, there wasn't much there that I found too useful, but I got a couple little ideas from it anyway.
