Well, no tube this weekend,, The Delrine fairy did make a delivery so the tranny looks good for this week. I did get the links mounted to the 1/4" Delrine drop out tray, tho. looks pretty good and I bellieve I have the drop out tray figured out to take six screws including the shocks to open the cage and get clear access to the drive line and tranny(we'll see how that works out). Still have alot of clean up and filing some of the brackets.

It should be clear what suspension setup inspired me. We'll also see how it works,,,,, as a droop setup!!

i love it when that happens, it is definitly not stock anymore. after building mine i dont think i want to do it again (well at least for a while) and maybe pick up the axle ax10 for a winter build.

Lookin good dog! You'll have to let me know how you like those CVDs. I have the knuckles but haven't brought myself to try the CVDs and that is where my truck is lacking. I'm diggin that straight axle rear too. Are you going to go ahead and shave the knuckle arms or just leave them after installing the straight axle?

I'm still finishing up my shop. Almost done with the bench. I can't wait to get back into building!

Nick, I have the Straight Axle Adapters On The Rear, not sure what mean by that...

You still have to run the stock knuckles when using those straight axle adapters don't you? they just take the joint of the axle so it can't pivot?

EDIT: Nevermind! I just looked at the your pics and seen that they make the straight axle housing also. I didn't know they made those!

I have that same jack i picked up at sears for 20 bucks!! Completely functional, neat stuff.

While doing your suggested jack stand search i came across this!! (its 1/18th scale, perfect for my mini collection)

The mailman dropped of some goodies yesterday, AND Got the tranny case milled up today!! Woohoo!! It fit first try!! Modified the gear shafts to fit the thinner(lighter?) Tranny. Closed up the case and spun it,,, ooohhh not butter smooth due to the debris in there(guess I need to wash them in soap and water and regrease)

Anyway on the pics(56k beware!!)

Lockedup, the links are 1/4" delrin rod drilled and tapped for 3m dia. long setscrews and the rodends are Traxxas 1942 rod ends

Got some things done... good start for my first day of vacation!! woohoo,, got all next week to work on this, so, I can take my time and get it just the way it should be... here is the tranny plate I just wittled(litteraly made by hacksaw drill and files) out of some .117" Aluminum. Dont mind the hack job. When I get back to the CNC I will cut out the real one.

Ok guys, its been a few days,butt I have been working pretty hard on getting this thing just the way I want it. This is what I have so far..

Pulled the chassis off of the jig to see how the suspension moved since this is a fairly new layout. I like it so far, no axle steer during extreme articulation. So I mounted the shocks to the temporary side plates, so far I like what I see. I also made the first bend into the 1 piece main hoop(see if you can find the joint) That basically set the stage and foundation for the rest of the cage. The idea is to keep it as low and legal as possible.

At this point I mounted the shocks and mocked them with rubberbands to see how I liked their position and to see how high the cage needed to set. everything looked good so I built the lower section of the chassis with the ease of disassembly in mind. I made 2 strips of .094 steel and brazedthem to the bottom edge of the lower loop, drilled and tapped 2 holes. rock solid mouting rails(will later get a slick delrin sliders to cover the "sticky" steel)

Ok, so now I got the shock hoops brazed and the shocks mounted. I really like the position of th shocks, but if they dont seem to work I can de-braze them and move them, no problem.

So at this point, the tube work pretty much done execpt the mounting lugs for the body panels(those will come after some testing and any poss. changes). Articulation seems to be just right. I think I'm going to like the droop setup, we'll see what testing says..

BTW, the main ideawas to mae all the joints tight and clean. To do that I "fishmouthed" and fit the rod to get the tight fit I was looking for, so when I file the exess brazing off you get a very clean joint.

Anyway waiting on a 9 cell 1500 Elite Battery pack from Mr. Holmes to mount the batteries and the electronics.

Thanx Fellas, The kind words mean so much when you put this much work into something thats 85% handfabricated.

Ken, its actually 3/16" solid steel rod fishmouthed around the adjacent "tube" for a tighter, cleaner fit.

Looks great man! I dont have the tools (being only 15 sucks sometimes...), so I cant really build my own, so thats why I just went with an NN from www.tcscrawlers.com. But anyway, I am lovin that chassis, did you base it off of a Hustler? How did you mill the tranny case, with a vertical mini mill? All in all, awesome rig, I bet it really performes well on the rocks.
