Does anyone know how to disassemble the main and jib winches on a Vortex 60? Mine are beginning to squeal, and I am thinking of cleaning/greasing them and possibly installing new motors with speed controls. The main winch is a SC-3 and the jib is an SC-4. I believe that the main winch is the same as the ones on the Santa Barbra, but I am not sure. Thanks for any help.

Correct... the SC-3 is also on the S/B and Soling for that matter. Might I say.. CONGRATULATIONS on the 60! I have not seen one of those in literally 20 years !

I have an SC-3 in my lap as I am typing this... (how's THAT)... remove the winch from the boat, flip it upside down and you just take the 3 flathead screws out on the bottom of the black drum case, and remove it to reveal the plastic gears inside. I would be interested to talk to you about your 60 sometime. I really liked that boat when it came out, unfortuantely Vortex did not last long after that. I purchased the molds from John Reynolds (REYNOLDS MANUFATURING) at just about the same time and started making R/C hulls, but I have always admired the 60.

Thanks for the help Larry. I was able to open them both up and a little lithium grease made them smoother and faster.
