RE: Seawind Build
SJN - I believe Wismerhel is correct. You just bit off more wind than you could chew. Your sail servo has about 150 oz. torque which should be enough torque for a boat that size normally. I think if you'll just stick to "normal winds" you'll live happily ever after.

ORIGINAL: wismerhell
easy...you just had too much wind!
Flatten your sails, do whatever you cant to depower them...but again too much is too much...I'd say max limit is 20mph (and I am optimistic)....

SJN: Don't be alarmed if not everything goes as you want it to, as I experieced myself, the learning curve in your first sailing hours is rather steep, after that the behaviour of the boat gets under your control (slowly) and you'll learn what you can and can't do with her , handlingwise.

RE: Seawind Build
hehe, thanks guys. There is nothing wrong with the seawind......it was just my technique that was lacking
I went out to the pro`s today, and got lots of tips. They fiddled a bit with my seawind, and I was off sailing.
Unfortunatly, one of them had the same frequency as me, so I did not get much sailing time. So I filmed them instead.
But we got mine sailing as fast and well as the others, but I always came in last...hehe
I have to learn how to "read" the wind better.....

Thanks!
the Music is from Thomas Newman. It is from the movie American Beauty. The plastic bag theme
Larger 51mb movie in better quality, if you have the time to wait [8D]

RE: Seawind Build
It's been a while since I checked the sailing section and I have been missing out on this thread. Between me and my friends we have 6 seawinds here. We sail pretty often setting up course's with little marks. All the people in our group that have the seawinds sail full size too.
My seawind is the oldest at 2 years (still original sails). All the antenna's are run in a straw stuck under the foredeck.
Make sure you grease the keel and rudder rods because they will corrode.
We have sailed our seawinds in some pretty windy conditions. The tendency of the model to turn into the wind can be "tunned" out by adjustments of the rig. Basically if the two sails are balanced in their power the boat will sail straight. If the jib is too powerful it will turn away from the wind, if the main is too powerful it will turn into the wind. We have found the easiest way to cure this problem is when you find the boat becomming hard to control let the mainsail out but adjusting the sheeting position on the boom. Also as the wind starts to bulit a little backstay also helps.
In a strong wind the boat will dive underwater going downwind so make sure your hatch does not leak (the standard one does).

Wis - Nice job on that blue Seawind. I could shave in it. I think your blue is the same color as the stripe I just put on my boat. I trust you used Krylon? Jim

RE: Seawind Build
Looks good, Sonnich. I think that pond, being rather sunken with the berm all around, is always going to be a place of treacherous winds. But if you are like most of us...we sail where we can. jim

Yea...I think so too about the winds....
its a shame, because there are 2 harbours in there for scale boats, and lots of poeple sail all kinds of boats there.

RE: Seawind Build
I have to agree, it's a beautiful pond for RC boats. Judging from what I can see of it, the winds will probably not trouble you except when they are from certain directions. It looks like one big side is clear.
But look at the bright side, Sonnich, you will get really good at recognizing and reacting to wind shifts.[8D] This is a skill all sailors need. And you will find other places. Enjoy.
Are you going to paint your Seawind?

It is painted!!
Look how bright white it is.
The plastic is cream colored compared. Look at the first pics in the tread.
I like the way it looks. Plain is my game

RE: Seawind Build
Sorry, SNJ.[&:] I've never built a Seawind so don't know how "white" their white hull is. But, as you say, most look a little cream colored. Guess I stepped on my tongue.[]
