Default Marblehead Class Rigging Details

Does anyone know where I could find, dowload or purchase the rigging details of the Marblehead class model, as I have this type of model (plans) and no rigging details[:@].

Any help would be much appreciated

Go to http://www.amya.org. See the suppliers list at the bottom of the page.

Hi down under: I raced Marbleheads for years and they are a great class of boat.
They are large enough and heavy enough that they perform much better than the currect crop of smaller plastic boats being sold.
As the other fellow stated, you can get details from AMYA. They are also referred to as the 50/500 class which means they are 50" long and have 500 square inches of sail area.
You can use any design rig you want as long as it comes in at or below the maximum sail area. I had some with wood masts, some with aluminum masts and usually did my own rigging. I still have a hull that I believe was designed and raced in Australia but can't recall the name but it has a canoe stern and sailed beautifully.

Have fun

Hi 3Dbob,
Just to clarify, Marbleheads are allowed 800 sq. ins., not 500.

I've been out of it since the late 60's or early 70's and am sure that back then they were called 50/500 Marblehead class.
Aren't they still 50" long?
Brief me if you have the time. Would like to know.

50" OAL with a .25" bow bumper. 800 Sq. inches. Anything goes as long as you have those basic dimensions. They're now using 24" fin keels. High performance and high $$$$$. My old boat probably has an 18" bulb and would probably get left behind. Funny, I still have that problem with my EC 12![:@]

I just cannot remember the name of the boat but it was built either in New Zealand or Australia back in the 70's and won the nationals back then. It has an 11" keel with the bulb at the bottom and is a canoe stern. Really was a nice sailing boat.
Obviously, when they went to the 800 square inches of sail they had to use a deeper keel to allow for the increased sail area.
The yacht club I belonged to had a bunch of model boats and we raced on Friday nights and had a ball.
Plan on getting mine back in the water next year.

Hi JozB
I'm an Australian yachtie too and a member of the Albert Park club in Melbourne. I raced IOMs there for a while. They still race but currently at either Caribbean Gardens or Karkarook Park Lake in Warrigal Rd. Moorabbin. The AU version of the AMYA has a site and the following address will get their home page. Click "Class Information" at the top and you'll find a page full of regs for the 4 main International classes in AU.

Did you ever find any good information on the rigging? I am building the same sailboat you are and coming up on the mast and rigging part. Did you make a wood mast or different material?

I am currently resoring a Merlin that I raced in the sixties and would be able to draw you a rigging plan if required, do you still need the info?

I finished building my Bingo last summer. I can send you some pictures of the mast and the rigging if you still need it. I did change from the wood mast to Aluminium.

I hav a 50/800 class boat named Hanker Chief that I am finaly completeing. I started it when it was showl on Model Maker mag. I just recived a new plan for it from Bill Northrop's plan Service. The drawing makes reference to the Bingo Rig as it is a hull only plan. Can you send me a sketch of your Bingo Rig?
