Atlantis update
After recently finishing my Robbe Valdivia, I've been casting around for a new project. Which I think will be a variation on the Robbe Atlantis kit, but I havn't gotten the money together for it yet.
So in the mean time, I thought I'd go back and do some updates on my original Atlantis build. Try to give it some fresh interest. I'm documenting the changes on my site: http://www.sparksstudios.com/boatyard/Index.htm , follow the Atlantis link to see some of the modifications I've found from other Atlantis builders.
I still have serveral things in mind to do; touch-ups to the paint, polishing the metal "brightwork" fittings and sealing them, sealing the deck with a new topcoat after the caulking simulation is done, etc. So I am far from done, even though it could be called "busy work", just to have something to work on.
If anyone's seen some cool modifications to a Atlantis that you think can be retro-fitted to a built boat, please make a suggestion on here!
Thanks,
-Taylor

RE: Atlantis update
That boat looks very cool! One of our local club members just bought an Atlantis kit. How complete does the boat come? I assume you must attach the deck, but the hull is one piece, right?
That club member doesn't have his done, but he also has a Victor Model Products Mary J Ward schooner which is neat too.
How much did it cost you to get it 'imported' to the US? I suspect shipping was rather expensive just because of the ballast.
Thanks for sharing!

I've included a picture from early on in the assembly, I'm afraid I didn't document the build process to the same detailed level I did with my later build of the Valdivia. But I do have several pictures from different points during building the Atlantis on my website: http://www.sparksstudios.com/boatyard/Index.htm , come on by. And have your local club member give me a shout if he has any questions.
And as for importing it, I found a Robbe reseller in the US that happen to have one with all the accessory kits in stock, so shipping wasn't so bad.
Have your club member post a webpage when he starts building and send me the link! I've been compiling a link page on my website with all the Atlantis builders I can find, have your friend drop by and take a look. I even have a link to Gerd Neumann's site, the original designer of the Atlantis kit for Robbe, he's done some great mods based on the Atlantis hull since he's retired.

RE: Atlantis update
Would you mind giving me info on your distributor? I may be interested in one of these in the future. I will forward this thread to the guy from my club. Thanks for sharing!

RE: Atlantis update
Hello There,
So sorry for my bad english but its some years ago i writhe the last time.

I have a nice schooner (Orinoco Flow) who´s i designed by my self.

The reason i Wright in this therd is a the 1st designer of the atlantis told me that the boat is to Heavy. The Ballast must be only 17Kg so its 5 kg to mutch weight. If the Atlantis is tuned like this its 1.3 times Faster. We test it and it´s right. In our last Races are 3 Atlantis, 1 original and 2 Tuned. The 2 are relay faster.
So thats enough for the first time.
CU Torsten

RE: Atlantis update
Pretty much done with the updates. Some pics from before and after on varnishing the deck after penciling in caulk lines to add contrast to the planks. I'll soon add a picture of the sails from after their rework.
If anyone's interested: Gerd Neumann from Germany has a neat mod called "Susanne", that is modeled on a Atlantis hull. http://www.minisail.com/html/susanne.html
