RE: Working Canting Keel on Volvo 70 Ocean Racer
Interesting looks like it works real nice and smooth and does what a canting keel's supposed to do.
Of course there were things I'd change if I were doing it, but that goes without saying, right?
Aim High!

RE: Working Canting Keel on Volvo 70 Ocean Racer
The only recognition I know of for canting keels (or any movable ballast) in AMYA is in the open class where there's mention of F-100 boats. At 100cm, they're 1-Meter boats with a lot less restriction than the chartered 4 classes or so at that size. For better or worse, the F-100s' main proponent appears to be a manufacturer who wants the freedom to build faster boats than the constraints of existing class rules allow, but maybe that's a good thing. Especially since the F-100 rules don't limit boats to his or any particular maker's boats.
It is some cool looking technology. About a minute into the video the boat is severely heeled nad then the keel angle is adjusted so you can see the effect on the water... I though the effect was pretty dramatic I want that capability!
