RT65 Race Trimaran - Successful Maiden Voyage
Today I have maidened my 65cm trimaran - RT65 Race Tri.
Despite of nearly no wind - 2 - 3 knots at maximum the tri performs well and accelerates very quick. Below are some pictures of the maiden voyage and a short video clip I did by myself one handed while sailing the tri the other hand.
The link to the video clip is here:

Enjoy the pictures and the video clip.:zbeer:

Congratulations on finishing the boat and getting her sailing. It looks good on the water. Ilike how quickly you managed to go from concept to a sailable product on the water.

Hi TBK,
in the past I have been building just the way you build. Then after a long build and spending a lot of time in a beautiful paint job I got a boat which does not sail well in 80 % of the cases.
With the MKVIII I started a new way of building to minimize the risk - Ernst's reputation is so bad across the boards but I did like his lines and the communication between us. His design has proven to be superior to the old designs - the boards were wrong . I also have sailed some of the old designs from other designers as well and can tell about the differences.
After the success with the MKVIII I started to ask Ernst about designing a 65cm for me - with handling alike the large one. I got the coorninates by Email and started to draw the shadows. Except doing the drawings I spent not more than 12 hrs doing the RT65, the outcome prooved to be as much fun as the large one.
Now I'm doing the drawings and start some moulds for a nice copy.

Sirit
I completely understand. I did trustErnst's design enough to warrant a quality build. I was confident enough in the design that I made a good enough set of moulds to allow me to build two boats (maybe more who knows). I have built a number of boats including a trimaran of another design so I have have some experience with the design principles. I also sailed and raced catamarans (full size)for about ten years on our national team so I was very familiar with boat handling and performance. I wanted to go with something that has a lot more bouyancy in the main hull so I opted to build the square bottom version instead of the round bottom version of the MKVII. I did get the plans for the MKVIII and I may also consider building the main hull and using my existing beams and floats. That is if I can find the time. Good luck with your moulds.

I have to thank both of you very much for your confidence in me!
But this isn´t the end.
I´m working on refining the lines of the RT65 for Phanchita.
Maybe you need to build a second prototype to sail it against Number ONE! *ggg*
I can tell you - there is more to come!
