Catamaran RC65 Adrenaline - 65M class - build log
Inspired by cat pictures from fellow sailors and the success of my 65cm tris I have started a 65cm catamaran build and will share the building process here.
I'm laminating the hulls now, first pictures will be here soon.
Cheers

RE: Catamaran RC65 Adrenaline - 65M class - build log
I have laminated the two hulls for 'Adrenaline' using the moulds from my 'Armageddon' .
I laminated the hulls plain without gelcoat to save weight.
The beams are test fit already.
Next step will be radio installation and building the rig.
Cheers

RE: Catamaran RC65 Adrenaline - 65M class - build log
I made some progress on my 'RC65 Adrenaline' project.
I have created the center platform to attach mast, daggerboard and rudder from 6mm carbon fiber tubes secured to the beams with carbon tows and a little epoxy, have installed the mast & keel boxes and rudder tube and fit the fin and rudder.
I also build a new rig from 6mm carbon tubes.
Here are the pictures:
Center platform with mast box, keel box & rudder tube installed
Keel and rudder assembled
Mast attached - total weight now 375g
Next to do:
[ul][*] R/C installation[*] Sails
[/ul]
Have a nice day

I found some time to place radio equipment. The rudder is moved with a carbon push rod, all the R/C equipment except batteries sits in one float, the battery is in the other float to keep weights balanced.
I will go for a set of easy sails and hope to launch at the weekend.
Here are some pics from my last progress.
radio tray
some views of R/C installation
rudder with pushrod attached
top view with all rc installed - you can see batteries are in the right float, while servos and receiver are in the left float
Have a nice day

Hi Sirrit
Following the build with interest
A few questions if Imay.
How come do you only run one rudder and not one on each hull. Can two rudders be used or is there a disadvantage to it.
Do full size cats run a keel as well.... I have only seen hobie cats and cant recall them needing a keel. What would the problems be if no keel was used
Will be watching how it progresses with interest

Hi Aquajet,
I needed to build the center structure to support the rig, so fitting one rudder there won't involve more weight but save the weight of one rudder. The daggerboard adds stability and works agains drift. Most full size catamarans except beach cats have either a keel or daggerboards.
You can use two rudders without any problem, I would not leave out the daggerboard or two of them, one in each hull.
Iwill test my boat for the first time soon

Sirit
Nice job with that catamaran. Which do you think has better overall performance the cat or tri. Have you had a chance to pair them against each other yet?

@TBK
from my feeling the Catamaran accelerates as quick as the Tri, maybe a little bit faster. It tacks nearly like a mono hull and handles even more easy than the Ragnarok, I made the clips on my site by myself the camera in one hand, the transmitter in the other. Performance wise I have not tested the Catamaran in strong winds yet, I guess the Tri will perform and handle better in strong winds, in light winds they are about the same performance.
I will keep you up to date and will post the results as soon as I have the chance to sail both against each other.

I have a kit available for those who do not have the time for a scratch build.
You will find details at [link=http://www.rcsails.com/rc65.htm]www.rcsails.com/rc65.htm[/link]
