RE: Two DM2 IOM's Launch

they look good - well done on the design. They have some air of resemblance to the V6 I race the forward section is more like the old italico. Are you gonna produce them commercially ?

Did you get a chance to race them against other well known designs to see how they compare ?

I really like the design on your last pic. How did you managed to do this ?

Cheers,
Gilbert

Thanks Gilbert,

<div>INTERNATIONAL ONE METRES&mdash;GO INTO PRODUCTION</div><div>Early in 2011, Carl Smith, Graham Roberts and AntonySisson, approached Dibley Marine in regards toproducing the DM range of International One Metre(IOM) radio controlled yachts that have dominatedthe New Zealand fleets since they came on thescene back in 2009. Carl Smith was Dibley Marine&rsquo;sfirst client back in the early 1990&rsquo;s when he built theDibley 650 sportsboat &lsquo;Stealth&rsquo;. Carl is currentlybuilding his third Dibley designed yacht, a 40-footCanting Keeler which he is hoping to launch sometimethis year. Joining Carl in the IOM venture isGraham Roberts who runs coaching and mentoringsessions at the Tauranga Radio Sailing Club, andAntony Sisson who, as a New Zealand Boatbuilder, has been building IOM&rsquo;s, in his spare time, for aslong as he canremember.</div><div>
Originally the trio were asked to assist in tuning the Dibley designed DM-IOM&rsquo;s,for overseas clients, but they grabbed the opportunity to go into productionwhen this option presented itself. A purpose built CNC machine, built by Graham, took Dibley Marine&rsquo;s 3-D model and produced precise tooling from whichfemale moulds were produced. Resin infusion and cooking was the chosenbuilding method as it produced light, strong and very durable hulls. It is envisaged that 20-24 boats will be produced annually as this is an afterhourshobby for the three, but they have the expertise, passion and drive to producethe best package that can be offered on the market.
</div><div>The first of the production DM2&rsquo;s will be out by the end of April 2011 and they will followup with the DM1&rsquo;s which are more light air orientated. They also have greatcontacts for shipping anywhere in the world and can help with tuning hints andadvise if needed.</div><div>
Beside the recent successes, the DM-IOM design won the2009 NZ National Championships as well as taking out2nd, 4th, 6th and 8th in the 2010 NZ National Championships. They are proven winners, easy tohandle, and beautiful to watch under sail.</div><div>Interested enquiries should email</div><div>Carl, Graham &amp; Antony [email protected] for further details, costs and delivery times. www.ohope.co.nz/iom/

RE: Two DM2 IOM's Launch

thanks quite impressive - they sure look well built. And I like the design too.

I personally find NZL and AUS design very good. I've had a TS2 from Craig, a Vapour from Carl and I was tempted by the tempest from Carl but got Alec of Blackmagick old V6 which is designed by Ian Vickers.

Best of luck with your design - I'll put the details on our website if you want.
