I'm still waiting for my kit to turn up
!@!# Christmas post service is so flat out .
Australia Post in QLD has put on 600 more staff just to handle all the delivery's .
So I may or may not get it before Christmas.

Just an update on the SE5a .
Well what can I say it's Christmas Eve and the last post has just been delivered .
Guess what?? NO !@!!@ KIT .
It must be on a slow boat from China .
God the German post is !@!@# slow .[:@][:@]
The kit might turn up some time in January I !@!# hope .
I bet the Brian Taylor 70" Hawker hurricane I ordered from England will get here long before the SE5a does

To All have a happy Christmas and a safe New Year

Well, at least you know that DHL has it. With the Xmas rush and shipping halfway around the world you've got to expect delays. To save money I decided not to go back to the US duing the Xmas/New Year holiday and I won't teach again until January 6th. So I think I'll get started on my SE5a.

Well I got started on mine over the last 2 days.  I may be in over my head.  I am use to having instructions with the kits I have built like the BUSA, Top Flite, and SIG kits.  This is definitely going to stretch my ability having to decide myself what to do next.  Don - please post a lot of pictures as you go.  I have put together the two sides and that is as far as I got before going back to work today.  Grover1- I hope yours shows up soon.  It took about 6 weeks to get my kit from Chris here in the US.

Well I did say my Brian Taylor 70" Hawker hurricane would be here before the SE5a does
It did the plans and the kit form Bob Holman arrived today. Not to bad 1 week form the U.S
A big thank you to Bob Holman
The Cowl ,canopy and alum spinner are in Sydney and will be here tomorrow .
So the Hurricane will be built first.

The SE5a will be done next year if it gets here .
I will not hold me breath but . [:@][:@]

For the sort of highly scale build you were planning for the SE5a, it would be a multi-year project anyway. So many you can just just work on it on the side. The CDScaleDesigns SE5a is a great little kit and I'm enjoying building mine. But to bring it up to the level of scale realism of the Replicraft drawings would involved some considerable alteration.

So where's the kit at the moment?

Well, as long as it's not that slow boat to China! So the Hurricane kit, is this a full kit or just a short kit of cut-parts?

Don
The Hurricane is a short kit .
I have all the other wood and Balsa I need in my stock pile.

This will be my first plane with working landing gear and flaps .
I still have to order the retracts for it .

With all the info over on RCSCALEBUILDER about the BT Hurricane
I should have all the help I need

Will this be your first "warbird" style build? I'm occasionally tempted but it sometimes seems like getting into a whole different building hobby. That, and I'm too cheap to be paying several hundred bucks for retracts.

Yes Don this will be my first "warbird".
The retracts I have been looking at are just as much as the Motor if not more.
I may or may not be doing a build thread on this one .

The linen Solartex from Mick Reeves is rumored to be the politically correct color for British aircraft, and you say service from England is good so....... It's one less coat of paint as the natural and painted colors all weigh the same.

If you're talking about linen Solartex for the eventual SE5a, I have to disagree. The linen solartex is far too yellow for British CDL, which was/is more of a egg-shell white.

Mick on his website says he has Solartex make him special batches of the correct color. It would be nice if someone had a swatch of it and the others to see what it is like.

I'm no expert on colors for linen and I'm not sure if such a category exhists but Mick claims as TFF said that his linen is specially made for him. Eggshell white....the antique would possibly qualify then.

I would not get pedantic about CDL - there are too many variables with many manufacturers and ages of material. Paint is another matter - easy to specify a formula - and yet look at the discussions on PC10! The weight of the fabric is probably much more consistent than its colour, and therefore the translucency is more consistent.
