RADIAL Saito FA-200 R3 or Seidel 7-35 - need HELP!!
hi guys,
all with the Christmas holidays! I am writing to you from Russia, so forgive my English.
Currently rework my plane - Super Stearman fron Graet Planes http://www.espritmodel.com/index.asp...D&ProdID=11903
now is the engine OS Max FS 200, but this is to much, so I decided to buy more large-scale engine - due to the sound, and power less.
the choice is between Saito FA-200 R3 (30cc) with Keleo muffler http://www.keleo-creations.com/index...roducts_id=210
http://www.espritmodel.com/index.asp...D&ProdID=13884
or Seidel 7-35 (35cc)
http://www.umstech.in/view_product_d...odel%20Engines
tell me, have a more massive engine and a low sound?
cost is very high for me, but I'm willing to sacrifice for the sake of similarity of scale and aesthetics of a biplane.
Heard that the Indian manufacturing motor does not really, have any problems with the delivery and timing, and the Seidel ruined and bankrot...
In general - help they can. I would be very grateful to you, we in Russia these motors there is only 7-70, but for me it's a lot of weight.
Thank you all, Dimitri.
-
If you have a video of the engine - you'll be very grateful.
And yet - tell me, can you have among the owners of this engine seidel 7-35- tell me how good it is in operation, there is some unpleasant drawbacks, and that this motor could be wrong?
what the real attraction (killograms) and a better use of the screw?
tezhe all questions of interest and respect engine saito Fa-200 R3 (radial)
maybe I'm not quite clear writing, just do not know how to say it differently.
In any case - you'll ochent grateful.
Dmitry.

There aren't too many Seidel/UMS 7-35 engines around, so you might have a hard time finding someone with personal experience. I did see that there is a new version of the 7-35, which now looks more like the 7-70.

Personally, I prefer the look of the old version with the parallel rocker rods, but that's just because it makes it look more like a WWI engine. The new version looks more like the 1930 radials.
The prices have increased about 150 Euros since I order my 770 in October!

I've heard it's best to run the Saito 3-cylinders with on-board glow because it's very common for one cylinder to "drop out" and that means you'd then only be flying on two cylinders at 2/3 power.

RE: RADIAL Saito FA-200 R3 or Seidel 7-35 - need HELP!!
Thank you!
i know that the Saito Fa-200 need a on-board glow - jn every my 4-stroke engine i use this.
What you thik - on Seidel needs on-board glow too?
and else - any single-cylinder engine to power corresponds Saito Fa-200 R3?
What do you think?
about SEIDEL 7-35:
Yesterday I wrote to Indian producers, but they are silent on the timing of delivery of 7-35.
A new modification for me is more appropriate because I do not have aircraft of World War II.
How reliable is the work of 7-35, how do you think?
what could be the disadvantages?
any ignition --I use?
Is there a scale mufflers on 7-35?
Yes, somewhere on this forum have read what people choose a new modification of the engine, but they receive from the manufacturer old. How can I avoid this?

Thanks for ansver!
How single-cylinder engine to power corresponds Seidel 7-35?
What do you think?
What, in your opinion, may be the main shortcomings of the Seidel engine?

RE: RADIAL Saito FA-200 R3 or Seidel 7-35 - need HELP!!
I think that the Saito 180 FS or the OS 200 FS (more powerful) are both similar to the Seidel 7-35.
I don't think there is a down side to the Seidel other than it's expensive. I bought a Seidel 7-70 recently to use in 1/4 Scale WWI planes. I haven't had a chance to run it yet.

RE: RADIAL Saito FA-200 R3 or Seidel 7-35 - need HELP!!
Hi guys, actually it was great to find this post, I am actually looking at the 7-35 myself, going to put it into a KMP AT-6 Texan 88 inch wing span, 1.56 scale the cowl is 9 inch in diameter at longest and 8 1/2 at the narrowest point. which this engine would look great in for scale.
but my question is, the plane calls for a 30 to 42 cc engine, this engine being at 35 cc and only weighting 2.9 lbs, do u think is a good match for power, as I do not want speed just pulling power with a 20 X 5 prop?

The GP Stearman does not need a lot of power. I flew mine with a older heavy Saito 120. It would be a shame to cover the Seidel with a cowl though. IMHO all radials should have onboard glow. I run McDaniels on my Saito 450 and Saito 325.

I spoke to ums, they told me that the new 7-35 will ready to ship by the middle of the month, I have to make a decision quick tho, as they are going to use a new distributor and you will not be able to buy direct anymore.
If I go with the bigger ST7-70, it weights 5.9 lbs awith 4 hp, that might be too much for this plane , also the engine overall dia is 9.25 whic will not fit the org cowl.
thanks for your input

RE: RADIAL Saito FA-200 R3 or Seidel 7-35 - need HELP!!
As someone who just recently purchased a Seidel 770 (from UMS) I'd say that the only rational way to approach this is to ask yourself if you REALLY want a Seidel and will worry about what model if fits into at some later date. So do you really want this 7-35 so much that you don't mind if it might not be right for this particular model?
And I believe if you take this approach, then it probably ultimately makes more sense to get one of the 770s.

That's funny Abu... It's exactly what I did... I got the first Seidel/UMS 7-70 from Hobby King last spring and have been looking for a suitable airframe ever since...Going to get a Keleo collector ring for a better exhaust system...
The only downside I can possibly see is the lack of spare parts, unless UMS will provide them.

RE: RADIAL Saito FA-200 R3 or Seidel 7-35 - need HELP!!
Did you see that UMS seemed to now be offering the Seidel style collector ring for 110 Euros? That seems like a very good deal. I lucked out with someone here on RCU selling a NIB Keleo ring, otherwise I think I'd be looking hard at the UMS ring. That having been said, I do think it should be possible to run the 770 without a ring in a WWI cowled model.
I've already got several candidates for the first model with the honor or carrying my 770. The "safe bet" would be a 1/4 scale Pup. A sexier option would be a 1/4 scale EIII, and the "wow wee" choice would be a full-out 1/4 scale replica of the Sopwith Tripe. I have the plans for all three.
The way I see it, you don't buy a thousand+ dollar engine to stick in ONE model.

RE: RADIAL Saito FA-200 R3 or Seidel 7-35 - need HELP!!
I see from the site KMP suggests a 26 to 32cc engine and 87" ws. I would use a prop with more pitch. If the weight is more than 25 lbs I would try a 10 pitch first. I don't think there would be enough forward speed to fly well otherwise. I don't know the operating rpm of this motor but the 770 does not spin up alot so I would want more pitch so fly at least 50 mph or so. I don't have a need for speed but I like a plane to groove well and not be mushy.
