Default Seidel Fuel Supplier

Happy New Year all. I found a fuel supplier in Az who sells 100% Methanol fuel by the gallon. It's 99.95 % pure. There is NO oil added and NO shipping charges.

So you can order 1 or 2 gallons if prefered. They recommend Klotz oil so you can mix your oil content to suit your specific needs.

They may, in the future, offer premixed fuel but that's to be determined.

http://torconitro.com/about-us.html

The fuel is $18 and change per gallon but with NO hazmat fee and NO shipping charges, I think it's a reasonable deal.

Hi I've been using 15% total synthetic Cool Power 4 stroke fuel and it seems to like it and I've had no problems at all in my 7-70 . It's at my neighborhood Hobby Shop and it's 18.95 per gallon. I don't know if it's worth the time and effort to go to 0 nitro fuel. At least for me. You might want to try a gallon and see what you think. I do keep it on the rich side of the needle, that really helps too.

Don, yes there are several types of klotz oil. I'm going to contact them and find out which one is the goodest for our use. I'll post that info here.

Wow, I paid about $15 for 10% PowerMaster at Hobby Town last month.

Isn't this FAI fuel ? If so, the cost is usually less than that of 5% nitro fuel.

It's FAI in a sense that it has no nitro. The reason I bought it is for its no oil content. This allows me to add Klotz to get the desired oil content that I want, that was my goal. Plus it comes right to my door.

I don't plan (at the moment) to use a collector ring so 6-8% oil will be a good thing.

Bob,
VP fuels sells methanol at $3-5/gallon. But you have to buy a minimum of 5 gallons (they "may" have 2 1/2 gallon jugs as well). Hazmat comes in at about $50-60 for a 5 gallon bucket though.

Thomas.. hazmat fees are high..

I think Klotz techniplate is the way to go with the Methanol.

Um...I see six or so versions of Technoplate! And most of those specifically state that they are NOT alcohol compatible! In fact, the only one that says it's alcohol compatible is the one that is a blend of synthetic and 20% castor oil. []

Only if you buy small quantities. Myself and 2 other gentleman and looking into purchasing a 55 gallon of methanol towards the end of April and mixing our own fuel for one of the Local Hobby Shops. If this happens, i will clue you in and let ya know how much for a few gallons of either pure or mixed seidel fuel if your interested.

I've got 10 gallons of methanol sitting in the shop right now waiting to be mixed. I'm just not sure which oil to use, but it seems that Klotz Super-techniplate is the one to use as it is methanol-alcohol compatible

But that also contains 20% (degummed?) castor oil. BTW, how exactly does one mix the oil. Do you just stir it in? Do you have to shake it up. Will the oil "separate" over time?

Yeap, that looks like a winner. Strangely, on the original page that Bob posted, I couldn't open a link to the info on this one.

As far as i know, its just a matter of pouring the stuff in and mixing it up thoroughly. I'm planning on mixing up the fuel i have right now at 7.5% oil per gallon. That puts 96ounces (3 quarts) of oil per 10 gallons. Which should last about 3 seasons.

So how could I tell if a given oil wasn't designed to mix with methanol? Would it not mix up right? Or would it mix just fine and then quietly destroy my engine? I still haven't found a source on 4-stroke, methanol-compatible oil here in Japan. I've asked one place about the Klotz techiplate and got a no.

You are going to have to ask for 2 stroke for methanol. Whatever people want to call it, our model 4 strokes still lubricate like a 2 stroke ie the oil is mixed in the fuel. Dont get hung up on the 2 or 4, get hung up on the methanol. There might be 4 stroke model oils out there, but they are from modified 2 stroke oil. You may or may not know if it mixes depending on what you got.

I think I have a lead now on "oil that can mix with glow fuel." Asking about "oil for methanol" just confuses people here.

Don, another solution is available. If you buy some FAI fuel at say 185 oil that has only Snythetic lube you can just mix that with your methanol 50/50. That'll give you 9% oil content.

Frankly, I think finding FAI fuel would be even more challenging that finding the oil.

We found something called Klotz Heli Glow that might work. It seems to be an all synthetic oil designed to mix with heli glow fuel.

Ever sense the FAI stopped requiring FAI fuel for competition, there has been no need for it for the general public. It is now more of a fringe item. http://www.klotzlube.com/proddetail....5FGallon&cat=8 from the website. Helicopter engines are designed to run at very high rpms. That oil might be thinner than you want, but hard to say. If they can get that, they can or know how to get the other. Your not going to find it anywhere that is not a hobby/rc shop.

I provided the hobby shop guy with the information about the Klotz techniplate original discussed above and he checked with the Japan dealer for Klotz and said that's not available. He could of course be wrong.

I suppose a quart of oil in my checked luggage would be out of the question...

Maybe I just need to mail it to myself from the US as "modeling supplies."
