well thanks to a friend tonight I got the pilots manual or one of the field  manuals for the 410. I cant sprechen zie deutsh so i just looked at the pictures ))  anyways I got some of the stab fleshed out, but still have more work to do on it but its 230 am so im off ta bed.

Hope to finish it tomorrow. I have an idea to make getting it mounted straight and proper incidence in a way its totally idiot proof. problem is I need to check if it will cause any clearance problems with controls. will prob just add it and worry abt it later on when I get that far along.

well today I was working on the stab and noticed that my loft didnt turn out properly. when I lofted the stab I got a bow in the middle of the loft instead of a nice straight taper. So I added some more guides and relofted.  Next I will have to redo the parts I have to match the new loft.

you can see the diff in this pic. the center and end of the stab matches but in the center you can see where the old went outside of the new loft.

anyways I was checking the stab and found out my loft wasnt doing so good I needed more guides as it was giving me a bow in the middle  so here you can see it

well I reworked the stab and started on the elev. seems my grandson gave me his flubug and I spent more time in the bathroom today than at the puter.

you can see from the pic above the new loft sitting in the middle of the old one and how all the formers stick up past it in the middle but match at the ends.

anyways its getting there. the idea I had before to make the mounting of the stab idiot proof looks like it will work so sometime soon I will add the stab mount stuff. I put a couple in the usual place but saw that the others will work fine instead.

So that is the background on this project and though I will be offering 1/6th and 1/5th scale plans my prototype will be built at 1/4 scale.

Great project Joe [8D]

Is there any specific reason that you offering 1/6th and 1/5th plans and that you are building a 1/4 scale prototype? Why not make the plans also at 1/4th scale available with a proven prototype? Or are you also building a 1/6th and 1/5th prototype?

Just wondering.

Ive already built a 1/6th scale a few years back but I like big planes so Im doing me a 1/4 scale for myself. I will offer that size plans if someone wants, however I dont think too many ppl will have room to transport a 165" wingspan plane and that 112 and 132" wingspan plans would be more consumer friendly

I agree on that 112-132 wingspan thing, at 114 the nacelles are getting pretty dang big..it will be an awkward wing to haul around.

Professor, I don't recall were you building a 1,2,or 3 piece wing?

Also to my eye the Nacelles of the 410 are just warmed over me 109 tins. I had purchased two large me 109 G type spinners for my build..

Are you going to use 109 spinners or will you have something more accurate?

I am sure you have seen then Video out there of an actual 410 taking off.. Man that is one big heavy lumbering machine..Its no wonder they had very little luck in the role of a heavy fighter.. that being said..it has an amazing profile from almost every angle once that gear comes up....

We had considered building mine with fixed gear..to make sure it even flew well, then building my buddies with the big Corsair gear...It will be a miracle if either gets finished..I hope to get some motivation from your build. I will probably build a removable tail so as to allow easier trips out of the basement ..

will update some more in a couple days

Wow! I did a double-take when I found this thread! Very exciting!

About 6 months ago, I scoured the web for Me410 plans, and found nothing except a few rumors about Vance's upcoming kit. I wrote Vance about it, and traded a few ideas back and forth, but since he wasn't going to produce a kit, I got started making my own plans. I did read a thread at RCScaleBuilder about someone making an Me410 a few months ago, if you haven't seen it.

What 3-views are you using? As I started doing my research, I found about 3-4 different sets of three views that looked decent. However, after blowing them up to the same size and comparing them on my back-lit table, I found a LOT of discrepancies between them: primarily surrounding the wings. Some of them show a wing with a smaller chord at the tips than others. I made a set of 3-views from the ProModeller Me410 kit, but the kit shows a slight cant in the trailing edge near the aileron, whereas all the 3-views all show the diamond plan form. I've been trying to take my best guesses between all these options, based on photographs and what I know about the actual aircraft dimensions, to build my own set of 3-views. Below is a photo of what it was shaping up like. Glad to share more about what I've found, if you come up with similar questions.

I have another resource that you might consider: have you ever seen 'Wings of the Luftwaffe' on the military channel? These are aired rarely, but keep an eye out for the episode about the Me110. A good 1/3 of the show is dedicated to the Me210 and Me410. There are great walk-around videos of the aircraft, shot in color, that show many of the control surfaces moving. This is where I discovered the aircraft had standard flaps: not fowlers as I had also suspected. Also, if I recall correctly, the butterfly radiators pivot with the flaps like the me109. There is some great in-flight video of the aircraft, including a take-off roll and some gun-camera footage of B-24s taking serious abuse. Apparently, The Me410 was a very effective bomber defender until the long range P-51s arrived on the scene. I have it recorded on my DVR (with all the other episodes), and I'm trying to figure out how to record them to a DVD. I'll let you know if I'm successful.

The Me410 is a stunningly beautiful aircraft, especially in flight. The diamond wing, the elegantly long tail section. I'm totally committed to building one, so I will likely be one of your first customers when your plans are finished. I don't have any prior experience with designing my own twins, so I'll be glad to use plans from someone that has more experience. I'll be watching closely!

Hi Windhawk. Ill be back on my plans this weekend as i been busy babysitting this week and had to take grandson to have tubes in his ears yesterday so been busy this week.

as for 3 views I am using the Mushroom Yellow series for those. I also have the 410 pilots handbook to help with some stuff as well as abt 6 other books on the 410.

Also have a real nice walkaround of one of the survivors with some good closeups.

Family first. We insist!

I agree: the mushroom yellow 3-views looked to be the best. The only glaring error I found on these was a repetition of the gear doors on the bottom of the nacelles. It was either two left gear doors or two right, but in anycase they should be mirrored I believe.

Have you figured out what the retract angle is? Looks like 100 degrees, maybe more.

I havent figured out yet but should be between 90 and 100 degrees as they rotate so the wheels sit flat so is prob the same as a corsair p-40 or ju 88. Next week when I get back on it I will get a little farther on the frameing first then after I get that pretty well finished I will work on drawing up the gear. I am thinking of prototyping the fraame and seeing how wingspans rotating gear work with it as we figure it should be the same as his P-40 stuff he is working on which I think he said was 100 or 110 deg
