RE: *** Top Gun 2011, RCU Onsite Coverage ***
Day two is in the books here at Top Gun 2011. It was another great day full of flying. The two Pro-Am classes were flying their second round of flights today, while the Masters, Expert and 2 team classes continued with static judging today. I spent most of my time on the flight line catching the flying action on video today.
Once again the weather made for some challenging flying. Winds where up and across the runway for most of the day. The temperature was also up as well, hot and humid with temperatures in the 90's. There is supposed to be a front blow through tonight which is supposed to cool teh temps down a bit tomorrow, and the winds are supposed to calm down by the weekend. So there should be great flying this weekend as the Expert, Masters, and Teams classes start flying on Saturday.
So, here are some of the pictures I took of the action today. I hope you all enjoy them.

Great to see the Albatros handling the wind, David. Brave lads all with that kind of gusting!
About to rain here in Clearwater, the front should be thru before flying starts tomorrow, which hopefully means the winds will have slacked a bit. Also a bit cooler

Ken, your photo and video coverage and the planes themselves are awe inspiring. Getting this coverage almost live, is the next best thing to being there. Someday I hope to attend with my sons. They are young men who love RC planes too, and we will make it a family vacation. Thank you so much for the top notch coverage, from the bottom of my heart. Jon

As promised, here is a short video from today's action. We all got a peek at Mike Selby's new F-111 as he brought it out for a flight during an open flying session. We also had one very ugly moment as well.

Hope you enjoy the video.
More coming tomorrow evening.

Hate to see that. I can't imagine how disappointing that must be after all the effort that goes into fielding an entry. My condolences to the owner / pilot.
My compliments to the pilots doing so well in spite of the unfavorable wind conditions.

Great pics Ken! Hope you can make it to WOTR again. Would be nice to see that kind of coverage at Warbirds over Texas in June.

Very nice pictures, good coverage. What are you shooting with? (Hardware).
A job well done, one can only imagine the sacrifice of having to travel all the way to Florida in April, spend countless hours on the flight line, reporting, talking pictures and having a blast! Your sacrifice is not in vain!

Great fun to watch the action all the way from Japan! You can even see the "love-bugs" in Ken's video! So perhaps it's like the old joke about motorcyclists: How can you tell a happy TopGun contestant? Count the number of bugs on his teeth!
