I went to my local flying field today and no one at all was flying due to wind. And I thought of the competitors at TopGun flying top-notch scale models in stronger wind. It's inspirational.

From what I had heard & read, Frank had some problems last year with even the expert class competetors who had not built their planes !! Also the # of participants was on the decline !!
Keep up the good work Ken !!

I recieved invites for Top Gun 07 and 08 ,I constructed my Top Flite P-47 doing a bit of modificatios to make it more scale like and was indeed honored with Franks invite to Top Gun, however I simply could not afford to drive to Florida. I'm sure weather and bugs would of NOT dampened my enthusiasm[8D]

Scratch builds vs Kit builds ,now a natural progression is Kit vs ARF. Many competitions have been won with planes built to bones or primer and then finished and detailed by the "builder". Its all in the finish and details. LOOK AROUND at all the young kids building their models!!! See any? If our hobby is going to survive it must appeal to the "instant" generation. The days of the plans and materials builds will die with us. I am a purist at heart but I would like the hobby to survive and not evolve into the Airhog/Chinese packaged toy business. When you go to meets, scale and competition look around for new faces, young faces. I see very few. No pure ARF will ever win. I see nothing wrong allowing someone to compete with a decked out highly detailed ARF thats is well presented and flown.

Okay, I hate to see this wonderful thread fall so deep into the gutter, but put one on my table, and I'll show you why it won't cut the mustard.

We took a bunch of pictures today but after thinking about it, the thread is titled " Top Gun 2011, RCU Onsite coverage, after thinking about it a bit. I believe Ken created this thread to put his pictures on. He is doing a great job and I am sure he will post more soon.

Thanks Ken, I must have missed that post. I thought after I posted a pic of my plane earlier, I thought maybe I shouldnt have posted it here. I am afraid my pictures will look very bad campared to Kens. I will post them anyway. I stopped taking pictures when my son declared an IFE after some signal glitches and he had to land near the A-10 as it was landing. I think the A-10 pilot didnt realize what had happened and that Sean had called an emergency landing. Sean did a great job of landing along the edge of the runway avoiding the A-10 that was landing. Ken, I hope you got video or pictures of the A-10 and the BT-13 coming in. Both pilots handled the unexpected situation as professionals, good job to both. As far as the BT-13, the breakaway feature I used for the main gear worked great, maybe a little too great? The attach screws pulled out of the wood. I increased the size of the screws that hold the gear to the wood, now to find out what the radio issue was.

Ken, You might want to get static and in-flight pictures of a Love bug. Seems you have no problem catching awesome images of anything that flies

LMAO Ken, I tried to get to talk to you today to let you know in person how much your work is appreciated, but the timing was never good. We will be back tomorrow weather we fly the BT-13 or not.

Hat's off to you Ken. After four day's on that crash cart watching everything, with all that is going on, it is amazing you manage to get any descent photo's at all. Much less any video. And to all the contestant's Great Plane's and Great Flying.
Wonderfull show.
Thank You to all
