The control, step 1.
bend tubes,...a little bit moreI have explained in a new separate thread.
Title: Metal tubes bend properly and easily
They require no bending machines, rollers, sand or other means.
I need for this work about one minute.
1.a Mark the center of the bend
1.b For a tight bend, we glow out 10mm,……5mm to the right and the left.
gabriel
1.c For a wide bend, we glow out 20mm… .10mm to the right and the left.
2. Glow with the micro burner now the tube, least 30 - 40 seconds on all sides.
3. Let cool the pipe, no water.
4. Take the brass tube with the pliers on the right mark.
5. Now grasp the tube 5 to 6 cm away from the mark with his left hand and bend it 40%.
6. You can bend so long till you hear a "knack", then stop.
7. Glow the area again with the micro burner, and bend.
Not more than 40% and only to the "knack".

Do the pedals actually work the rudder or are they there mainly as a foot rest? I'm not sure if the steering wheel takes care of the rudder. Flightbook

Thanks Abu,
that wasn't bad, we make a leap in time.
Jim,
yes the steering wheel takes care of the rudder, and the pedals are only as a foot rest.
The wooden stick in the photo is just a placeholder, and the control column is in two parts, so I can put them in the rotary joint.
The steering wheel and the steering column I can put in only after the varnish, but the parts are already finished and I can photograph for you too.
I started with the seat, I have woven the seat with shoe yarn.

Figures 1. shows the control with steering wheel. After painting, the part is installed.
Figures 2 and 3 shows the glued wing.

Outstanding work on the wings! What will you cover them with...and how will you make sure the covering doesn't warp them? Or maybe that doesn't matter on a wings that are essentially held in place by rigging wires.

I will sew and nail it the fabric.
I believe that I take the fabric by Toni Clarke.
That the wing does not warp, I'll pull the fabric from one piece over the ribs.
The final adjustment will I do with the wires.

To understand I have uploaded a few photos.
Material for the wing, complete pine
First, cut and paint all the wood strips, also the wing spars and trailing edges.
Pin the wing drawing on a flat board.
Now pin all strips front and back with clothespins on the drawing.
Glue the spars and the trailing edges on the strips.
When everything is dry, then the component can be removed from the wood plate.
Now, pin the whole on the curved board.
Glue all spacers on the strips.
If it’s dry, then you can the upper strips are glue on.
It‘s done.
I build all my wings with this method.

Fascinating construction method and a reminder that there was a time in early aviation when the "wing rib" hadn't been invented yet. There was just some fabric with some "stays." And then later, as here, two stays with some separator blocks...with the fabric on the outside. It's amazing that in a few short years things had advanced to the stage of the thick rib, cantilever wings of the later Fokkers!

Yes Abu, this method has been used very often and was very effective.
The same method was used by the Wrights at their flyer, and this design was used for a long time and we still used today.
But the reason is mainly that it is a very lightweight but very stable construction.
On the original Demoiselle was the complete weight with this design, only 120kg.

Gabriel - simply fantastic!
I have just discovered your build and are subscribing to it, beautiful work. I'm interested as well as others as you can see from the replies so don't stop posting.
Micro soldering burners are a great tool, I use them all the time now for soldering jobs like soldering a needle valve extension, etc.
Keep up the great work,
Brian

RE: Alberto Santos Dumont “La Demoiselle 1909“ Model 1/4
Hello,
many years ago I've built a other model of the Demoiselle.
In this model, I had a 15 cc four-stroke engine installed, 150cm or 160cm wingspan and the weight was 2.5 kg.
I had an great pilot for this model.

Wonderful build! Will you use wing warping? Did it use a shoulder harness for controlling the warp?
How did you determine the blue color of that amazing metal fitting?

Thank you Jim,
I'm glad if it pleases you.
No, I have not wing warping, the wing has such a large V-shape,is not necessary.
At the Fokker Spider 1911 / 1912 it was the same.
I'm gone with my color sample cards in the museum in France, quite simply.

Fabulous work on the fuselage ( if one can call it that) Gabriel.
I thouroughly enjoy this intricate - meticulous - complex - museum scale build!
It's amazing how those micro torches make fine soldering work easy. Keep up the fine work and keep on posting us with your progress.
Cheers,
Brian

Hi Brian,
yes I will do it gladly.
Now it goes slowly to the assembly, I hope that everything is perfect.
The first dummy engine I made with resin, but unfortunately he is too heavy and I immediately started the engine out of balsa wood to make.

Hello,
after a long time I'm back here, the reason was lack of material.
I've grinded and mounted the wings.

Hello together,
now I have time and I'm back here.
I have finished some new parts, but my pictures are not so good.
At one of my photos you can see my "helping hand", for the soldering works of the pipe clamps.
This is absolutely necessary to produce some pipe clamps and to solder them.
A very simple construction made of a 3mm aluminum wire, but is very helpful.
The brass tubes was slotted and then I inserted the clamp in the slot and soldered.
All holes through the wing spars, I reinforced with 1mm thick pine strips. So they do not break.
I wish you much fun and a good week.
Greetings Gab

Hello,
today I have built the propeller and the two radiator.
The propeller of the Demoiselle it's a big thing with 16 inch diameter.
The radiator was made of 1.5mm aluminum tube, 0.3 mm copper wire and hardwood.
And I have installed the steel wire in the tail.
Have a nice weekend.

Really nice work! So it looks like Santos-Dumont must have been using a Chevalier prop by that time (a big improvement on what he was using earlier). I like your version.
