RE: Bluegrass Dawn Patrol
I am sorry that I am leaving on an extended trip the following week. I would have liked to brought my1914 Jeannin Stahltaube. It is built for Control Line Sport Scale competition. It weighs 10 Lbs and has an OS FS91 SII-P engine. Flies real nice at 1/3 Throttle if NO wind. See my Avatar for picture I am 5 Ft. 8 In. the Taube is 7 Ft. 4 In.
Here is a short video of it's first flight. Plane did fine but the photographer fell over!

Southern Dawn Patrol. Two years ago. Was almost to Lexington, Ky. when I
remembered to put them in the trailer before I left. Had them FEDEXed to me
at Mac's. But because Mac's is so far off the beaten track, next day delivery means
by 4 pm.
They are now items 1, 5 and 9 on the check list!

Loading up the van this morning, finishing up the last bit of packing now (been on the road two weeks - got bits scattered everywhere!!
Bringing the Great War Flag Display, as well as the Eastbourne - hopefully got battery troubles behind me on that one (we'll see!!).
I'm also bringing application forms, etc for the Dayton Dawn Patrol the end of September - will be starting a thread on that event here during next week.
Also got Sir Percy a couple CDs of photos from ODP '11.
Hopefully will see everyone this weekend!!
'til then

RE: Bluegrass Dawn Patrol
This is my favorite..........
Mr. Blakeman, the current owner of Billy Thompson's 1/3 scale pup, let Billy fly his old pup again........Billy always asks permission to do any manuvers with some one elses plane...
he started to ask Mr. Blakeman for permission to loop, roll, etc.... AND OUT COMES THE CLASSIC! " Billy! Fly it like you stole it!"
WELL.... WELL ....LOOKIE HERE.....WE CAUGHT BILLY TRYING TO HOT WIRE MY PLANE AND REALLY USE THE TERM "FLY IT LIKE YOU STOLE IT!"

RE: Bluegrass Dawn Patrol
Evening, all - just about unpacked from the weekend; got pictures uploaded, and some tales to tell.
The inaugural Bluegrass Dawn Patrol, hosted by RCRCKY turned out to be a very fun and relaxed event to attend. I arrived at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer Park a bit later than I'd planned on Friday evening, managed to catch up with the Ohio duo of Paul Westrich and Barry Vogel, and even had enough time to put a short flight on my Eastbourne - and in the very still air it flew just fine, thank you!
Paul had been making noise about being first off Saturday morning, sometime around 6AM, so after an obscenely early wakeup call at the hotel, I headed on over to Steve Henry Airfield and the start of the Bluegrass Dawn Patrol . . . . and of course Paul was still in bed!! Had time to get the "Welcome Aviators" signs set up along the entrance road:
I had plenty of time to charge the battery on the Eastbourne and put in first flight of the event - Barry was stirring by then, and took a couple pics for me:
And apparently I'm STILL not up to speed on these new-fangled battery thingies, cause the charger complained the rest of the weekend about a low battery voltage!!! Old dogs, New tricks, and LiPo's - NOT a good mix!!! So with the Eastbourne down, once again with battery squawks, I spent the rest of the event camera in hand!!
Later on Saturday morning, we got the Great War Flag Display set up at the entrance to the field:
CD Doug Bailey thought they'd help visitors notice the field entrance a bit more, and I think it worked out just fine.

Meanwhile, Barry and Paul brought out their 1/3 scale GTM scale Fokkers - Paul's Dr.1 Triplane, and Barry's D.VI:
And they did a bunch of flying all day with the two birds.
They were joined later in the morning with Paul's brother Joe and his Fokker D.VI:
The ODP Gang did some great flying all day long.
