RE: NEW BUSA 1/3rd Scale Fokker Triplane!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Anyhow, back to the model. I was prevented from starting this past weekend due to a variety of issues. The plans are from the Neito drawings in the MAN book. It looks great at first glance. The nose is appropriatly length. At first blush, all I sse that is obvious is that the rudder has been enlarged by about 10%. I think it looks fine and will be very beneficial. As stated, it has a very close to scale airfoil, that will look great. A lot of the construction falls along the lines og the big DVII. Oh yeah, the landing gear is to short on the plans but will not be on my model.

The cowling will be spun aluminum, one piece however to cater to there broad customer base. What is the diameter of Glenn's?

A thought here. I am trying to convince Mark to go to Fibre glass rather than Aluminum, here is why. How many people are equiped or comfortable cutting off big chunks of aluminum or cutting accurate holes in it? In addition, if made of glass, it could have the step to face plate and all the rivit detail molded right in. I would rather have that already done for me.

That sounds more in line with the BUSA way of doing things and it would appeal to the larger portion of thier cust base than trying to detail out a one piece. Others can do Glens cowl if the sizes are compatible, Are the diameters similar? All in all it sounds like a nice kit, I'm still waiting for the Alby and a 1/3 SE 5a would be killer. I have a 1/4 scale and had a lot of fun with all the surface stuff on it. Hey Sir Percy I like old tractors too, I growed up in Ohio.

Gee Dave, in those days threshing was done by hand, after the 5 mile walk to school, in the snow, up hill both ways.
AND, it was only 60 years ago, I've had a hard life.

Steve, I think what you're saying is it's not the age... it's the mileage!

After having flown a few different DR1s, the thought of flying with a scale sized rudder sends CHILLS down my back ! hahahah i hve never flown any other airplane where the rudder is ALMOST more important than the ELEVATOR!! hahahaha
Steve, keep after them on your SE5a, I sent emails, and my buddies and I asked about the Albatross everytime we ran into them at an airshow, When i ordered my 1/4 D7 I even asked if an Albatross would be soon.. because I would wait ..and skip the D7 ...
Personally I really wish they could have released a 1/4 Albatross first. I would think in these computer days they could fairly easy design the big one, then shrink it, sell the smaller one from the same design...

I would be happy with a fiberglass cowl. Even if it were two piece, then it could be glued on from the inside. The rivet detail being already on the outer portion of the cowl. Drilling the rivets on the GTM cowl was a chore, but man, it looks awesome. That will be really good if they offer something actually scale , and durable for this offering. The 1/4 scale cowl really does not look very good.

That's disappointing to hear as I was considering buying one of the GTM 1/4 scale cowl kits for an eventual scratch-built DrI. [] I had assumed (always a bad idea) that it had the same scale fidelity as the 1/3 scale cowl.

Pfew! That's a relief to hear! I may not get around to building a 1/4 scale DrI for a while but as Dave Platt said regarding scale goodies: "Get while the gettin's good!"

He has good wisdom about documentation as well. I am in the middle of a very large, scale competition build at the moment, and I have come into a ton of docs for my subject. It is great fun. I am finding a bunch of cool sources for accesories as well, thanks to RCU and these threads. All of you guys are such great help. In fact, I found great shop space just to get this build going. I have two benches, in a T configuration in the middle of the shop. So exciting, I can have two builds going at once! I also have enough glass to build over these benches and it is a dream as a work surface.
The announcement of this kit release is great news, as I really want a replacement for my tripe. Of course now I want to go bigger and 1/3rd is a great size for this airplane. I can't wait to see more details coming from Dave.

It would appear that in some venues that SIZE matters. Interesting that is was Paul, who seems to have lost his fixation with large things, that would mention it. A Ziroli triplane is a triplane by those with less than exacting standards but it is a triplane. I've heard they fly well.
