Dick,

Sorry about the delay, I was at camp with my son doing some Duck hunting. The bottom of fuse and wings are sprayed light blue. The enitre plane is sprayed in green, the gray is brushed on with a 1.5 inch brush to get the streaking affect. The yellow is then sprayed on. All yellow on the plane is sprayed.

Hope this helps,
Wild Bill

Wow Dick, you are lightyears ahead of me. I am plugging along and have tail, fuselage and landing gear all done and will be installing firewall and engine this weekend. you can see lots of shop photos of the build on my FaceBook page. Here's a photo of the spoked wheels going on the axle. I think they look pretty good. Will be painting mine up as Cole Palen's older original triplane.... the one in the hangar up on the hill.
Cheers,
GY

The Spoked wheels are the ones from my old 33% scale Pietenpol project. THey are from the old Arizona Models wheel kit and my buddy Dave Johnson is the one who assembled them together for me. I do believe are the same ones he has on his 33% scale Albatros.

Vogelsang Aeroscale has some wheels very similar to those.

SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET! BTW, I haven't been keeping up with these 1/3 scale builds but I'm surprised that a G38 (with drive) is enough engine. I had been thinking that people were using much larger engines (G62).

The G-38 turns that 32-18 prop at 2900 RPM and produces almost 28.5 pounds of thrust. The plane weighs 29 pounds minus fuel.

Yes, a G-62 would work, but I wanted to do something a bit different.

Those G38 belt reduction Setups are cool, wish they were a little cheaper ! I always dream of seeing one at a swap meet, and hope nobody else knows what it is, hahahah

On the other side of the pond, the Brits like this setup. Just remember your swinging a very large and high pitched prop so you may want to have the engine idle as low as possible so not to come in too hot for landing. Maybe not a problem with all that drag once you get the other two wings on.

the idle speed is 600 rpm prop speed which is 1680 rpm engine speed. At idle the plane will sit still on pavement. I thing the idle speed will be low enough.

Weather and schedule permitting, first flights this coming weekend

The BUSA 33% triplane flew on Veterans Day (Also known as Armistice Day) Excellent flying plane, no problems, plenty of power for scale maneuvers.

Bill, that would be the "Fokker Scourge" as Del Johnson would say.

Great Job Dick!

Excellent job Dick! Love the videos, that big slow turning prop makes a great sound along with the reduction drive. Can't wait to finish mine! Am on the wing now!

Thanks! I appreciate the comments.

Ah, Yes, the wing. Then the next wing, then another wing, then that lower wing.

When will it ever end?

Dick,
Awesome looking videos. Great build and a fine flyer.

Now to finish the Axe Handles.
Some Pics from replica DR-1's flying here in Virginia Beach area at http://www.militaryaviationmuseum.org.

Bring your 1/3 scale Tripe for our “Second annual Mid-Atlantic Dawn Patrol “(MAD) 2nd thru - 6th OCT 2013.
We have three 1/3 scale DR-1s being built now and I'm doing a 1/3 Tripehound.

Two reasons why you need to come to MAD Patrol 2013 (VA Beach)

1. Glenn Torrance Models: Glenn updated his website with an awesome write up and many cool pictures
http://www.flygtm.com/

2. Full scale replica's flying Saturday for us. 5 min long. http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=PsLjFCg1BZA

Looks like Glenn has removed many products from his website. I will be in need of a few things for a Tripe soon. I hope he still has some stuff

WELL!!!! Here is an old thread brought back to life. I was talking to the folks at Balsa USA today, and they really are a neat group of people. I wished them a Merry Christmas and had a quick chat about the bottom wing of my 1/3 scale DRI build.
So to all the Huns in the sun I say...Frohe Weihnachten
And a Happy new year.

VG, you should contact Glenn as soon as possible. He may or may not have any inventory left for any of his kits. He is still offering his SEA5a.. I don't know if a single one has yet been shipped.

That would be a no to both thoughts on GTM. No extra parts left and no Se5s shipped. There are two people here that are on the wait list with the kits all paid for. They are number one and two on the list. Still no kits.
