Got my second Tiger Moth finished and out into the sunshine. Flies just like the other one. Has a Saito 150 flies like a dream. The picture on the right is the real Tiger Moth in England that I used for the covering. The covering is Ultracote with the Insignia Blue being put on with the Windex method.

These thing have the tail up in four feet and are off the ground in fifteen with the 150's fly around at 1/3 throttle most of the time.

I was at the Ottawa Giant Scale meet this past weekend. Larry took a nice picture of the English Tiger Moth.

Got the Saito tamed yesterday.
Maidend mine today with the Saito FA 180. Flies well. Big problem is it wants to climb all the time. Added a lot of down elevator to level off. That made for a scary landing.
I balanced it at 7 5/8 - 8 1/4" back from the front of the gas tank (middle section).
I am of the opinion it should be balanced by adding about 10oz wt giving it a steep nose down attitude.
Your opinions pl.

Now with the 11 oz of ballast attached, the engine shimed for some downthrust and the stab shimmed by 1/8" it flies well at 40% throttle. If I increase throttle it will climb. So I keep it at the 40% setting.
Found out the cross braces under the dummy tank pulled out of place and the end eyelets broke off. Have to revise that setup.
One other thing I did was replaced the lower member of the landing gear with a J-3 Cub "O" ring held strut that I had lying around. Now I have a springed landing gear.

Hey Cloudniner,
I dunno if you're still following along on this thread or not as I know its been some time since the last post here. However, I'm starting up assembly of my Tiger moth and noticed a detail on one of your pictures further back in here and it seems the upper fuel tank which aligns the top wings has a lower angle of attack than what I have noticed on others. Wanted to ask if you had adjusted this perhaps? I know the issue of the rear stab and a tendency of the model to climb pointed out by a few might have been a reason if you had adjusted your top wing angle or did you just leave straight out of the box as most have? I read that this model requires a carried down elevator trim for lifting tail surface to get proper flight. Would you have any input to share regarding that? thanks in advance Cloudniner.

Hello Guys would any of you happen to know we're a fellow could pickup a Hangar 9 Tiger Moth? Been searching many sites without muck luck, live in Florida so east coast region would be appreciated but not limited.

I swapped the front/rear struts holding up the "fuel tank" making the incidence angle of both wings the same. Had to adjust wing struts as well.
Added about 15oz to nose.
Added slight downthrust to engine.
Lifted the front of the stab by the thickness of two popsicle sticks.
Now it flies beautifully and i have better control during landing.

Availability says late June. Ironic when you consider who owns Tower. I wonder if Phoenix is using the same overseas manufacturer Hanger 9 used and they carry the Phoenix so the can lower the inventory they keep on hand? From a business sense I can see why they would do it that way.
