Can we get the lettering any bigger?!
Once again, this is what the Fokkers will find chomping on their tails:

NICE!![8D] It looks like landing & ground handling are much better than a DR1.
Are you going to have it painted up in British colors by ODP? It will look real nice in the air (with my SSW on it's tail.)

Paul,
The bat scheme is very cool!
A 150cc engine on a 1/3 scale airplane is a lot of displacement... With that 36" prop what's your cruising RPM? I bet it's nice & slow, compared to our smaller engines (merely 60-80cc!)

Hey Guys,
The Georgia guys (John and John) won't be able to make ODP. I'll be at the beach again with the grandkids. But, we will be at the Hoosier Dawn Patrol in August. Hope to see you all again.

Rhonda took a few shots of the "maiden flight" of your Camel........
Man oh man were we ever suckered in! [X(] We drove all the way down to Cincinatti to witness the maiden of Pauls Camel and also Jeff Cutter's third scale Pup. Little did we know that the maiden had actually taken place the night before! At least Jeff was straight with me.....it was the actual maiden flight of his plane - and the best part was I got do it!
We certainly enjoyed the time spent at your field! As always, the people and the food were top notch!
oh yeah, the pictures......the site is not too friendly this afternoon but I'll keep trying.

RE: OHIO DAWN PATROL 2012
Paul was cool as a cucumber on his maiden (well, what I thought was his maiden flight!)
All in all, he flew the Camel very well - and that PROP looks GREAT!
Jeff on the other hand, was a little nervous. This was as I understand it his first "big" build.....2 years of work coming down to this morning's flight - finally getting her up in the air! I was honored that her chose me to be his test pilot. I don't remember how much the plane weighed but the engine was a DA 100 and the prop was a 30 x 10! Plenty of power is an understatement - I suggest to go up in diameter and down in pitch.....we'see if we can find a 32 x 8 prop
and give it a go.
As you can see from the pictures, the plane took off very quickly and headed for the sky......I was easy on the throttle and don't think I was above half throttle, but she climbed very steeply even with a lot of down stick. Once up in the air, I added all the down trim and backed way down on the throttle and she setted in a bit.....still had a tendency to climb, but was very controllable. I was in love again and wishing that I hadn't sold my last Pup (or my first Pup for that matter!) I just might get those two big boxes down from my stash and build another one, the sooner the better!
Just a note for those building or flying big pups......the Pup was designed long ago when big gas engines were not available. With a 50cc or smaller engine, the incidence suggested on the kit's building instructions work great. But the larger the engine gets the more some adjustment is required!
On my last Pup, I set both wings and the stab at Zero degrees and added very noticable down thrust and a little bit less right thrust. I used both a G-62 and a Zenoah 445 twin (74cc) and these settings worked out pretty well. I also moved the CG around until I fell in love with how the plane landed......I could both wheel land it and 3 point it without bouncing or clunking it in and put it just about anywhere on the strip that I wanted to (when I was paying attention, that is). I think it would help to set the stab at 1 and 1/2 to 2 degrees of positive. Doing this would reduce the amount of downthrust required and also allow the elevators to be level with the stab when trimmed for level flight. My last pup weighed between 35 & 36 pounds. My first one weighed 35 lbs. Balsa USA's 1/3 scale Pup kit is a very, very nice flying plane and an excellent bargain at $350. And it is a relatively straight forward build.
Congrats Paul, your Camel is outrageous.
And Jeff, Congratulations. Your pup is a very nicely built and finished plane. You are to be commended for a job well done! And thank you for letting me have the honors for the maiden flight.

HPA, you guys need to add the poster to the AeroModelers website, it's too nice not too! Congrats on your SWC maiden last week, it was sweet to watch! It was nice flying with you and Lee at the IOK Dawn Patrol, hoping you have cooler weather for your event. Dale

Here's a little taste of the flying site of the Ohio Dawn Patrol, as well as yet another Sopwith being brought to Feed the Fokkers:

Jeff Cutter's brand new BUSA 1/3 Sopwith Pup was being test-flown this last Sunday by Art Shelton.
I think Art was having fun . . . .

Good video; nice flying airplane you got there Jeff. Did Art let you fly it?
Art if you built another Pup, we could have a nice formation of them flying!

I am seriously considering it.....but that would require shelving an already started project, cancelling the winter completion of another and also post-poning the start of my half scale N-11......and, and , uh not getting back to at least 2 other projects sheved a couple of years ago!
So many planes and so little time!
Yes, the big Pup is a very rewarding flyer!
And by the way Lee, thanks for showing the landing with the wing dip instead of the full stall perfect landing!

RE: OHIO DAWN PATROL 2012
What's the story with the Camel? Was it from a kit, from plans, or entirely scratch built? I would like to build a 1/3d scale aeroplane, but having already built a 1/4th scale Pup, I'd like to build something other than the 1/3d BUSA Pup.
