Default I tried I really did.

I’ve been following this meticulous build on RCSCALEBUILDER.com. It’s a 1/3 scale GTM fokker dr1 which I have built This individual pays a lot of attention to detail and I was mostly interested in his paint scheme. Well to make a long story short or a long build short he maidens it and tells he has a problem with the engine being under powered swinging a twenty inch prop and weighing in at 38 lbs using a 50 cc engine of some kind. Right away I begin to type: GET RID OF THAT ENGINE AND PUT SOMETHING IN WITH AT LEAST 60 TO 80 CC THAT COULD SWING AT LEAST 26-8 PROP OR YOUR GOING TO HAVE A BUNCH OF STICKS TO PICK UP!I hit the enter button and the message is not sent. What the hell. Oh is it because RCSCALEBUILDER requires a fee to be paid to be able to download a message. Holly #$$$ this guy is going to write off his plane in another try just because I can’t get this message sent. It was not a write off but a good deal of damage was done. It’s a shame he was not on RCUNIVERSE where the good advice comes free.

You are welcome to boycott RCSB because the owner of that site chooses to finance it differently than RC Universe if you so choose, However, I can assure you that you will never find the depth of skill and knowledge as it relates to scale model building on any other web site that you will find at RCSB. It is a specialised site that caters to a very select crowd and there is simply no way to pay for such a site with advertising dollars only. Thus it is a pay site. The really cool thing is that it is the only rc model related pay site that I'm aware of that actually has been able to survive and thrive. The fact the so many people are willing to pay the very reasonable fees, and then donate more on top of that, should say something about the quality of the site and its contributors. And yes, I'm a proud and paid up RCSB member.

(But you're right that GTM is recommending engines in the 60-80cc range for a flying weight of 35-40lbs.) I found the thread and posted that information.

I'm a LIFETIME member and have contributed more $$$ than this requires. When you really love something (or someone) you will do foolish things like throw money and time at it! lol

Many years ago when I was documenting my Mick Reeves Hawker Hurricane build this was my go to site. Come to think of it I don't think it was called RC Universe at the time. It was called something else (the name escapes me now). Anyway, in 2003 I discovered RCScalebuilder and was totally taken back by the knowledge base and the passion for scale modeling that I found there. If you wanted to learn somthing about the art of building a scale model that was the place to visit first. Do they charge to post messages and pictures on their site. Yes sir, they do but you choose the amount that you want to donate. To me it is worth every penny that I contrbute.

There are really only two sites that I visit on a daily basis and this one is the second of the two. RCUniverse is a great site covering all aspects of this hobby well but as Chad said if you are scale modeler "builder" or want to be (nothing against the scale ARFs), RCSB has carved out that niche and covers it better then any one else that I know.

It's definitely scale modeling at a whole different level. For years, I never even considered starting a build thread over they as I didn't feel worthy. But finally I felt it was just time and I started a thread for a scratch-built Sopwith Strutter. But first I needed to finish up my Albatros CI. I considered porting that build over to RCSB but decided it was just too much work so decided to finish it here. But after I'm done, in all likelihood I'll only post builds on RCSB and just come here "for fun."

However, I will admit there there's more interaction here on RCU. Building on RCSB can sometimes feel like doing a building blog.

Great site but I feel not worthy either however the answers and suggestions you get are top notch. A builder there actually sent me his forms for laminating wingtips, rudder, etc to use as I was building a kit he previously built. I returned them with a bottle of CA. You are able to read and the information is invaluable especially on detailing, covering, stitching, etc...

I signed up for an RCSB lifetime membership on the first day that it became available. I am also a charter member. I learned so much, over there, and, I wanted to do my part to support the site.

Do not feel intimidated by the quality of the builds, however. Feel free to post build threads, no matter what your skill level. I've seen everything from Goldberg kits, to highly detailed, builder designed, models on RCSB. All are welcome. All have eager followings.

RCSB is open to all that are willing to participate.
