Hi john,
Did you cut the film yourself? If you did what methods were used. It's excellent looking work.

Yeah, i cut it myself (profilm eats xacto blades) first thing i did was tape tracing paper onto the model, drew on the shapes, transfered the shapes onto thin card you can see in the picture's, then cut oversized pieces of the profilm, place two pieces back to back (so your cutting a left and right side) and pin the card templates on top of the covering pieces to a flat board with dressmaking pins, then it's just a matter of cutting round the card with a sharp blade.

The trickiest part is trying to get what is a 3d shape on the aeroplane to a2d shape flat on the board so you can cut the pieces out. I did a similar thing with an ARTF that i assembled last year for myself that i didnt like the colour scheme as it came. i took some better pictures of that that i can post which might explain it better.

Pretty nifty work there JJ. I did not think it looked like paint.
After redoing everything last night I decided not to glue the blocks in untill this morning. So after looking it over with some fresh eyes I glued them in. So it is almost done. Still have to bolt the cabanes to the block's but that's a simple task.

Thanks Robert.

How do you feel now it's been changed ? i know that sinking feeling well, and it would be so easy just to leave as is.

Oh my friend. I knew I was going to fix it before I knew it was wrong. LOL
Question for you guys that have been up close and personnal with a Pitts. I can't find a good photo of how the pull-pull hooks up to the rudder. Anybody know or have an up close photo?

Go to Aviat Aircraft, click on the pitts tab and watch for the blue and yellow one. You'll see the cable about 12" up from the base, the tail wheel steering attachs at the base of the rudder.

Thanks strait. I'm looking for how the rudder control cable connects to the rudder control horn. The photo is the full size control horn, what type of connection is made to the pull-pull cable?

If it was a homebuilt there is likely more than one way to get the job done such as a turnbuckel

I have poured over every photo I can but can't find one close enough to tell for sure. Most of them don't look like turnbuckles, nor a standard ball link as with many full scale. Near as I can tell they look something like the photo with the cable running into it.

Looking good ace ! I had used 4130 steel tubing also for cabanes / 1/64 ply for turtle decks coated with butarate dope primed and painted with perfect paint . All my stripping was done with 3m tape and rustolium spray paint , blue over white . all tape lines came out perfect .. now all I spray Dupont and ppg paints but are very $$ and you need to use compatible primers.etc.I never used stits but would be more scale with stitching and pink tape / just dont know if it smells like full scale stits product . J Tec gauges made a nice panel for dash!! good luck

Thanks Brian, I will look through them soon.
Very nice Billy!  I can only hope to end up that scale. I have used stits for a while and it does smell. Don't know what I'm gonna use on the Pitts, stits does not have all the colors.
I am currently working on the struts a little easier than the cabane. Gotta love it.

As I said I am working on the struts. They consist of two outer plies and a center ply. The center ply is formed around the ply that comes out of the wings. That center ply is complete sothe rest should be a walk in the park. But the outer plies will have to wait until tomorrow when I go and get some more plywood.

That was the connectors i got in my kit Robert. I didnt use them as i prefered some adjustment at both ends, so i just used ball links. If i still have them your more than welcolm to them.

Thanks JJ but I think I can make them a whole lot cheaper than you can ship them. And on mine the adjustment will be at the servo out of sight.

Looks like a good match to me,
You could take a trinagle file and cut the pinked edges into the flange on the exit so it replicates the pinked tape on the full scale.
Later!!

Ace,
Use the cable exit fairings if you prefer them but not all full scale planes have them, just like our models.

Is this the only way to make pinked tape? With a triangle file.?
