Well Bill, out of curiosity what you want for it? You can PM if not comfortable posting it.

Well I believe I figured out why I was having attachment issues or pulling away issues. In the process of recovering today I got to a point where I could not even iron the fabric on, period. Now, I know my jar of Stix it is maybe a year old but the bigger issue may be evaporation. It has became somewhat thick from being open during use. So I think it is to old and/or to weak. I ordered another can, it should be here in a few days.

Hmmm... I wonder about pouring a small amount into another seal-able container and immediately close the can.  Would that help it to last longer?  It would be a shame to use a few ounces and then throw the rest away!

Robert,
I have never used the stix-it, I always use nitrate dope for attaching the fabric. Just something I have always used and I am comfortable with it.

Later!!

Anthony, same here with the Stix-it. I just did not remember it being that old. I guess like other items I need to date it when I purchase it. Of which I have done with the can that came today. I also ordered some more fabric yesterday as well. I threw away the pieces from the failed attempt to attach. I am beginning to get that I will be glad when this one is done feeling, so maybe a few more days doing other things will alleviate that.

Stix-it can be thinned with nitrate dope thinner. It is essentially thick nitrate dope. Stix-it is the same thing as Sure-Seam glue by Certified Coatings available from Aircraft Spruce. It is a dope process glue. Poly-tac is the polyfiber glue, as you know. Both glues are suppose to be wet when putting fabric on, for full size airplanes. We modelers "miss use" the Stix-It by using it as an iron on glue; I do too. Mixing the processes, along with skipping rib stitching, is what killed Steve Wittman in his 4 seat Tailwind variant. The solvents in the Polyfiber just soak in too deep too fast. It is one of the things that works 90% of the time with no trouble, but ruins the day when it doesn't.

Tff, I'm not one to argue but the following is a direct paste from Sig's site. Notice the last sentence.

Stix-It works great for adhering SIG Koverall, silk, silkspan, tissue, or any other uncoated covering material to a model. Its high solid content and adhesion qualities make it a breeze to cover models with these economical coverings. Stix-It eliminates the messy part of the traditional process. No more need to dope through the covering and rub it down with your fingers. Simply brush a coat of Stix-It on the wood, let it dry, then iron on your covering material.

I wasn't going to say anything yet. But, the fabric came today and the wife just told me she plans on going off tomorrow.

John, it is the same technique. I don't know if the same base so some test apps would be in order for the paints to be used.

Sorry Kevin, No! Those things have been gone for years. Now it's smooth sailing.

Ha! That makes two of us. This bird has been the worst for the completing for one reason or another. And what I said Friday was blown out the window, turned out the wife's plans included me. Three days later, I ache from head to toe and the flower beads, still, are not quite done. With the need to finish the beds and my normal weekly duties I don't know if I'll even touch the Pitts this week. The way things are going you just might be done with that Spacewalker before me.

Ok, aches and pains aside, the fuse is recovered and stiched. Debating on whether to stay home tomorrow and get it back to the silver and maybe the first coat of yellow. Or fulfill my responsibilities at the airfield and go mow it. Hmmmmmmm, decisions decisions.

Looks real good Robert. Just curious though, why do you only cover it to the back of the cockpit?yeah, if you don't mow, you'll probably have a whole bunch of grumpy dandelion hating pilots on your hands.

Robert, I want to see a close up of the corners after you get the perimeter tape ironed down.  Those sharp corners are tough to keep from wrinkling up!
