Default OS 65 LA or Ax?

So, what's the difference between the two? I heard the LA is really cheap (in quality) and doesn't last very long. Maybe that explains the large price difference?

I would like to use one of these to power my Great Planes super chipmunk and have a pitts style muffler on it, but if you have any better suggestions please say so.

Go for the AX. The 2 main differences are the carbs, and the AX has ball bearing supported crankshaft. I am sure there are some strong supporters of the LA line, but the AX carb is 2 needle and much more reliable in my opinion. Will idle consistently, and hold a tune better. The .65 AX will also have a lot more power.

Sorry one more question, will a pitts muffler make a big difference in an engine? like, will it not run/idle as well, be harder to start ,etc. ?

The AX is the choice. You might lose a few rpm using a pitts muffler, but it will still start and run as reliably as any 2 stroke glow motor could....even inverted probably (such has been the case with all my OS engines anyway)

the LA is a budget line of engines...main cutbacks are the use of bushings on the crankcase and an air-bleed carb. those two items will prevent the LA from reaching the same power levels as the AX engines. They do run reliably, once set up and are ideal for low cost setups, but if the AX is a much better bang for the bucks if you got'em.

If you go for the AX line, which IMHO is the better line, go with the 75AX. I put my 75AX in H9 P-51 PTS, was a blast until I cranked the ailerons up (cheap H9 servos) and stripped one on a high speed pass. Made a hell of a hole in the Runway and was the most spectacular crash I've seen. Hahaha, wish I had video of it.
