I think we all know that guy that likes to squeeze when holding your plane. I do, so I added some cross bracing for him. I would never do that....... LOL

In my club the guys are pretty good about keeping there distance. Of course there has been that occasion with a youth I have to say " Hey Dad you got a few thou on ya, then move your child to a safe distance." But not very often, it's a good club. Here is the other side.

Thank's David! And you know the slow down is coming. The more I add the bigger this thing gets. It is definitely going to be a monster, for me anyway.

Thank's Anthony. I'm sure you would be one to know about them growing quick with that Waco and all. While I wait for the epoxy to dry on the fin I have been going over the plans, instruction book, and CD. The wing fillet area comes next but I think I will skip that until I have the lower wing halves built. That way I can plug them in and make the fillet tight and gap free without filler.

Thank's John, and it is a bit big for me to that's why I had to buy a trailer. Thank's Vincent, and it is very solid. While waiting for the epoxy I prepped the cabanes. The kit calls for mounting them and torqueing them down flat. I decided round is better so I fitted dowels inside, then mounted. By now the epoxy was cured enough to mess with the tail so I hinged the fin and rudder. They say these hinges don't need pinning, I don't know why not, so after covering and before perimeter tape they will get pinned.

Robert,
If I may, anywhere you can fit some tri-stock around the engine box/cabane/landing gear area I would add it for extra strength. I am a firm believer in tri-stock and pinning whenever possible. Even balsa tri-stock will go a long ways to strengthen a glue joint. Especially if you are not looking to 3D the few extra ounces up front will be worth it in strength. The 1st hard landing and you will be glad you did it.
Just thought I would bring it up as I don't see much in the way of extra bracing.
Later!!

Being as you brought it up, that is what tomorrow will bring. Lot's of bracing throughout the airframe. And the addition of the stab and ele. I am waiting on some ply for the engine box and it as well will have the tri-stock. The stock engine mount was at such an angle to accommodate 3 degrees right thrust this engine's mount bolts were off on one side. But I am also thinking of making an aluminum mount instead. The way this engine mounts with the carb underneath is a little awkward as compared to other gassers I have. We will see when I get there. Here is a template I made for the mount, the arch on the bottom is for the carb to clear. And a few pics of the engine sitting on the kit box. The left mounts are off the box and the area marked off with black marker shows where the box would have to be open to accommodate the carb. In short, too many things not working with that box.

Sounds good,
I was a little surprised at the lack of bracing. The framework does look nice.
My 3W engine has the bottom mounted carb as well and it was a chore getting the throttle servo installed and the linkage working properly. My engine box is removable and is attached with (4) 5/16" bolts. The throttle servo is mounted to the engine box and the ignition battery is inside the ignition box. This set-up allowed me to reduce the added weight by over a pound over the previous build.
The engine box has the right thrust built into it and the engine box is offset to the left side of the firewall to position the prop shaft on center. If you want some pics let me know and will send you some tomorrow. I also installed stops on the firewall to lock in the position of the engine box so it always bolts back up exactly the same.

Thank's Anthony and I may take you up on it if I can't get it figured out. My box had right thrust but I don't want any, that's where a lot of the issue is coming in. Well not an issue but more thought than the kits fit. I am seriously thinking of making an aluminum bolt on mount. Sort of a flat top A frame with a piece of ply in the center for the servos.

Yeah making things work with right thrust can be a PITA, cowl, spinner spacing etc:
Just let me know and I will send them.
Later I am signing off for the night!!

I agree with the addition of as much bracing as you can. If you land gracefully it's not needed but even moderate less graceful landings will put enormous amounts of stress on your airframe...

With the wife having the three day weekend that made today clean house day. But I have managed to get the test stand mount made. I will pick up some fuel for it in the morning after flying as well as some silicon tube to extend the exhaust down and away. Maybe get this monster fired up tomorrow evening.
