For those attending Sun-N-Fun, I have agreed to show the Pitts and will be with it most of the time. So come by and say hello.

And for those flying in, I love rides! LOL...

Just gotta love the shameless plug for a ride,
Maybe you can find someone to take you up in a Pitts. I looked into it several years ago at a local airport and they require you to have a private pilots license just to go up with for a ride.

I'll bet that keeps the lines down and insurance cost in the solar system, instead of the outer reaches of the universe.

Robert.

I would love to come down first to shake your hand and get to know you better.
Then to ogle and drool over your Pitts.

But alas. I will be with you in spirit and admire your Pitts from afar.

And yep, that 15 minutes has a multiplier attached to its upper right corner.
What that multiplier is only God knows. But its a big one.

Very nice Ace. From what you've shared about your wife you got a good one. Not like you don't already know that though. Lol.

What a great woman / wife Ace. Not to many that would do something like that, these days. You`re very fortunate..

The mold for the canopy has been poured. I will let it sit until tomorrow, then put it in the oven for a couple hours.

Did not care for how that one turned out, tossed it and did it again.

Hopefully the next mold comes out good.

I am sure like everything else there will be a lot of trial and error with the mold and the pull before you hit on the perfect solution.
Later!!

Thanks Anthony,
This one turned out flawless, it will take a day to fully. It has some tape lines in it and I thought I would have to sand them off. But after measuring, the top edge of the tape is the trim line. I will do a pull as is and see how it goes from there.

Good luck with the pull.
I will have to do a canopy for the RL and will need to pic your brain when the time comes.

Nice use of the cat's sand box Ace ... you're adding another definition to the use of the word "turd"... "that canopy was a real "turd" to make" (sorry, its just one of my ugly sides)

All joking aside... I was going to say something before you posted about redoing it, but the way you had the first one without supporting the sides, the plaster would have bulged at the sides... but you caught that, so I won't say noth'in now.... second one looks great... hey before long we'll see full kits by AceRC... don't laugh, it could work out nicely supplementing the retirement account.

Thanks everyone, I really hope it goes well. I don't have any other option so it has to work one way or another. And it needs to be soon as time is running out for the events I want to do. I missed all of last years but that could have been a blessing being SNF is celebrating the Pitts this year, who knows I may have lost it and would not have been able to go otherwise.

Robert, over the 182 pages in this thread im sure youve said it, but what do you use for the canopies? PETG? and where did you buy it? What thickness? Sorry for all the questions. Thanks.

I am using Plexiglas, the PETG I used the first time around was a bit flimsy in my opinion.

Good to know. Was it too flimsy because of the size your working with? or in general. How about for a "normal" size airplane?

Being cut in half weakens it as a whole, needed something stiffer so went with a stiffer plastic and thicker at .060.

Robert I sure hope this one comes off well, how hot did it take to form .060 plexiglas, didn't you build the oven for 300 deg. and a temp regulator to reduce it if need be.

Leroy
