John M,
Actually, for the size of this canopy I like the stiffer Plexiglas.

It went very well. It was funny to watch the middle son be married by the younger son.

I spent the morning up town but have finished trimming the glass lay-ups and added one last finish coat, I hope the last anyway. It is storming here so there will not be any painting done today. Hopefully first thing in the morning.

I did not accomplish what I wanted for the week on the Pitts, to many other things kept jumping in namely the boss. When I go up Sunday I will be there for two weeks so should be able to finish it up. Those glass frames I laid up turned out to be in the wrong place, the ones at the front anyway. And I don't care much for how the rear one turned out either, so, I have decided for now to just paint the frames on for appearance and git-er-dun! The canopy has been trimmed to fit and ready for separation from the windscreen.

Be back Sunday!

Robert, I'm sure once you get her in the air you'll have fun with it and not feel so much pressure to get it done. You can then go back and build the frame just how you want it.

That's pretty much the plan for now, especially being as I want to repaint it as well.

If you don't hurry it won't be flying season down there soon. Up here in the North we are still in the 30's in the AM.

The weather here is not bad either...70's--80's all week. We're lucky if it rains.

Robert,

Stupid question do you lay the fiberglass frames up on the canopy or on a separate mold and do you glue the frames to the canopy and then cut the canopy away from the windshield? You have it down to a science so I want to learn from the master!

I laid the frames up on a separate piece this time around. The frames will be attached via nuts and bolts except for the rear one, it will be attached by way of Goop. But! It could all be attached by means of foam safe ca.
And if I was a master I would not be doing things ten times before getting it right once.

I don't think you understand - that's what makes a master - doing what it takes to get the proper end result.

LOL. I guess. For what it is worth I will be going back tomorrow. I would like to take the next three days and finish it up, the boss won't be there until Tuesday.

I made it back about three hours ago, had to play granddaddy today. I did not like the fit of the new canopy to the old windscreen frame so I have re-glassed it. In the morning, providing the screen is right, I will start the priming, sanding, and painting of all the frame parts. Things to be painted are the canopy frames, prop, and the spinner. If things go well I should be able to assemble everything by Tuesday. In the periods of waiting for coats to dry I will be working on the pilot, seat, and harness.

The finale on this one has really drug out, with a full recover, top wing recover after the full, and this canopy build I am more than ready to see it done and airborne.
I just completed the final glaze coat of resin so it should be good to go tomorrow, god I hope so anyway.

It's been a little while since seeing that fabulous paint scheme.
Wow is always the first thought.

The windscreen glassing turned out real well. Everything has been primed, sanded, and repeated until ready for paint. I am thinking of running out to the parts store for a can of gold so as to not have to deal with getting everything out for an ounce worth of paint. But then again I have to paint the spinner red, hmm, and the prop black and white. Problem with painting today is the weather is real nasty so it may have to wit until tomorrow.

The rain cleared out somewhat so I got some painting done. All the gold is done, the spinner is red, and as soon as I finish this post I will go get some black for the prop, I have the white.
I'm not going to say anything other than I am getting excited!

The backside of the prop is flat black. Now to find some online to see how they separate the colors for taping off.
