I was stationed at Holloman AFB near Alamacordo, in the late '80's, we flew off an old balloon concrete launching pad,a huge area. You could always land and take off into the wind. Are you in the military? I soon learned to love the area.

Take Care

Jwrich yes it is a nice area. I was in the USAF in shop avionics F 15 never was stationed here. I have friends and family here. Just getting out of the flippen weather for a few. I quess they build a by-pass around Alamacordo the flying field is just south of that between white sands and town.

VG, Wildbills thanks for the input on tge cowl problem. This is what I came up with as a possible fix. I glued in cowl mounting blocks, the top block is taped 6x 32 lower block has a through hole for the same bolt. 2 small holes in lower fuse to access bolts.

UPDATE: Williams Bros. has the new 1/3 scale German wheels ready for delivery. Mine are going to have the correct white tires.

(Yes, I know why they were white too)

They also have the British version available at this time

Pilot showed up the other day. Used metal rod about the size of 2/56 to shape his arms and legs.
Other than another eye to ckeck it out before FCF there's not much else left. I hope everyone enjoyed the build as much as I did. Hope to post pictures of Maiden soon weather permitting.

They did some testing on a 40 pound WWI plane doing awkward landings that would certainly displace the tires from the wheels on the old style 33% scale Williams Bros. wheels. They got dirty and scraped a bit of paint off the wheel centers, but the tires didn't come off.

So I would say that don''t have the tires available separately, but you can email or call them to find out.

D7 and COCO: I'll be at Toledo on Friday and Saturday, probably hanging around the High Flight Booth, answering questions, etc.

Hope to see both of you there.

The plane looks nice.. Its good to hear it flew well also...
How long did it take you to build?

It looks like you had a open field to test fly, I will keep an eye out on youtube just in case you post some video later..
Have fun with it !

How did you ever fly that big bird at that field without hitting the dirt hill?

Pettit,
on the Williams Bros wheels, is that the proper gray for British tires?

I want to paint my black Dubro's tires with plastic model paints and see how long it holds up.

Albert S,
Congrats on the maiden. A very sharp paint scheme and quick build. Now you have the summer to enjoy your new found thrill

Make sure you have enough area for the hot air to escape! In most cases the cooling problem is due to the hot air having no place to go.

Congrats on the successful flights.
John
