hey dick yes the fin needs the offset and same with the stabs incidence on this lil beast in order to fly well without tons of trimming needed. Dave Johnson built a prototype and flew it and did all the tweaking to get it to fly properly and these are the dimensions he gave me for the final setup.

the airfoils for the full scale were Clark CHY which is just a Clark Y with a little tiny sweep up on the TE so since dave did the prototype with a Clark Y I just went with that because the little uplift in the back is only like the last 10% and doesnt go up much you would never even notice it and you cant even see it on the real plane.

we have a lot of info on this lil plane including some factory drawings of the fuse and wings etc so besides being scale accurate Dave says it is one of the best and easiest flyers he has built and flown yet and thats from a scale masters and top gun top competitor

Hey Peter not for sure yet it is still a slow work in progress. the holidays plus father in law fell day before thanksgiving messed up his hip and knee then went to nursing home and today had to be taken back to hospital for some surgery I havent had time to do much on it. it is still my goal to get the plans finished by the spring and start building the prototype. but it will be minimum next fall before I would be able to tell whats going on with it for sure.

I think you can get a set of FF 1 plans in giant scale from Bob Holliman under his Mammoth scale plans section.

yea but you never know how accurate they are and sometimes or most times its a lot easier and less headaches to start from scratch with your own docs

Another project?! F3F-2?

Joe, whatever becomes of these projects?

For example, these various threads that you started all just sort of petered out:

¼ scale TBM
1/6 scale V-22 Osprey
1/6 scale HE-111
1/6 scale DO-355
¼ scale ME-410 (in honor of Vance Mosher)
½ scale Fokker D-VII
½ scale Albatross DVa
1/10 scale C-130E
½ scale Sopwith

Are people actually building these, or do you "loft" and move on?

I'd love the 1/4 avenger, but I'm not sure what, if any tangibles you have to offer at the end of the day.

Just curious.

As Peter suggested, this would be an awesome model, and I too would be interested in plans (in addition to the mammoth Avenger).

they are usually for customers some only want basic parts some want more. in times if customers don't pay then the project sits on hold. the F3F-2 however is for me so I don't have to worry abt being paid to continue ))

the ME 410 I dropped because one the major designers was working on one I forget who so I don't like doing the same thing as other designers (major ones) I do talk to some of them and we discuss whats in the works and whats up coming. but a lot of stuff is for customers
and when they get so far if the customer says they can work with it then its good.

the HE-111 the Gear just got designed waiting on customer to want to pay the designer for making some.

1/2 DVa customer backed otu

C-130 there's a guy totally designing a really scale one so that went out.

So I start some stuff that isnt for customers then find a major designer working on one so why not let them do the work and I just build it when it is done.

Jerry bates was working on a Lockheed Hudson I had mine fairly far along so I sent jerry the stuff I had and waiting for him to finish

That makes complete sense, Joe.

I'd seriously be interested in building the giant F3F-2. I do love Grumman craft!

I look forward to the progress and completion.

Count me in for a set of plans if you're planning on selling some. If you have plans for third scale gear, I have access to a very good machinist who might be able to gen up some sets. LMK if you're interested.

Will be watching the build in any case. This project would certainly be worthy of a Moki 250 or Evo.

Best of luck and Merry Christmas!!

Prof,
How "scale" do you intend to be? I ask because I have wrestled with this subject for years and I believe there are some subtleties you may be missing.

I'm a little late to this party... What's the status on your plans?
