Work continues on the Nieuport ......... the front stab struts are completed. Next are the two rear stab struts. On the Rhinebeck N-11 Cole added a few safety features, the extra set of stab struts being one of them. I like this - now I don't have to worry about the stab coming off in flight. Another feature that he added was an extra drag wire from the front landing gear leg to the bottom of the V strut - I like this a lot, too......more wires is good, right?

Yes. I will be flying a 1/12th scale PB4Y1, 4 engine bomber (Navy version of the B-24D) in team scale ........ a replica of what my Dad flew in during the march through the islands of the South Pacific. He was with the first Marine photo recon unit which was deployed and in fact was in the first two planes which flew out and set up the unit. Jeffrey Pike finished up the project and got it flyable - it had suffered it's way through 5 different builders before he got it - and I must say he took a sow's ear and made a silk purse out of it ..... so to speak.
And I will be flying my Balsa USA DR1 in fun scale, too. Looking forward to next weekend and flying at the Nats.

I have finally got back to the half scale project. I cut the landing gear blocks from 1/2" Baltic birch plywood, used my router to groove it for 1/4" music wire and then added a 3/16" piece of aircraft ply to bring it up to proper specs. Fit into the airframe and used 30 minute epoxy to glue it in place.

Yikes! It has been a month since any work has been accomplished on this project - at this rate I might get it flying sometime in 2020 . But I will say there has been some mighty entertaining flying going on - mainly at the Ohio Dawn Patrol and then the Hoosier Dawn Patrol. These two events are, in my book, the absolute BEST!
So, to get the ol' building juices flowing again, I did a little sanding on the rudder and started covering. A finished rudder should provide plenty of motivation!
I am using Solar Tex from Balsa USA on this build. Their linen color is a very close match to clear doped linen and for my chosen color scheme will require no painting except for the National markings which consist of the roundels and rudder stripes. For those I might use rattle can spray paint or latex house paint - I haven't decided yet, but I am leaning toward the latex.........
