I received my leading edge material today. I ordered 3/8" by 6' wood dowels from Atlas Dowel Co, Harrison, Oh. Pretty good looking dowel rod for being 6 feet long! It just might be time to throw some wing parts on the table and stir in a little glue......
Work progresses on the rudder. I have drilled and cut and trimmed and I think I am satisfied with the fit of the rudder post.
Next step is to fabricate the hinges and hinge bearings - then I can glue up the rest of the rudder structure.

I'm anxious to see what you do for hinges. You don't want to use a whole sheet of CA hinge for each hinge point? LOL. It's really enjoyable to watch something of this size come together. And, I'm glad I stumbled across this thread right from the beginning, not at the end stages. I'm enjoying your work. Thanks.

Thanks Steve. The tail feathers are 1/16" balsa and 1/32" a/c ply.......I don't recall how many of each. That info is somewhere at the beginning of the thread, maybe page 2 or thereabouts.
The hinges will be made from brass tubes. It will be easier to show you later this week, than to try to explain it now.........basically, a tube will be bonded to the carbon fiber rudder post and then a second tube slipped over the first.......a strap is soldered to the outer tube, this strap attaches the rudder the fuselage. Like I mentioned, pictures as I go will better explain the process.

Sounds like you are happy with the dowels....looks like that "shipping piece of wood" can yield you some more building material ! LOL!
Write down you current list and anything else you think of ....call ya Saturday evening...Want to double check your order and pick up anything last minute on Sunday.

If not.... you would just see Art on the sidelines....... making airplane noises while waving around a "airplane on a stick" (you know.. like the ones the flip floppers use)

Finally I have something positive to report - I have overcome a multitude of obstacles (and I'm not going to tell you what they were or how much brass was wasted) and have the rudder hinges soldered and ready to fit to the structure.
Have you ever had a day at the flying field that resulted in breaking just about every plane in you hangar? Well that was the kind of week or so that I had on cutting, bending and soldering the brass rudder hinges..........oops, I forgot - I said I wasn't going to tell you oh well!
Any whoooo, here is the almost finished product - the straps have to be fit to the fuse, cut to length and drilled for the bolts.
The next step is to fit a spacer onto the rudder post between the two hinges..........the spacer is a brass tube the same size as the hinge bearing and will keep the rudder from moving up or down relative to the fuselage.

I have decided on the landing gear design and will use GTM's half scale Fokker struts for the legs. I will also use the same strut for the cabane struts.
And for the stab braces I will use the GTM quarter scale Hanriot strut material.
With those decisions out of the way, the rest of the way through the build should be smooth sailing ---------- hysterical laughter ensues ---------- even I don't believe that one hahahahahhhaaa!
