Art,
That was one great Christmas party!......... WOW! That was a crowd!
I can not even believe my own eyes....DOUG COX! Has past you on the building table....and he brought the proof!
If he brings his new plane to ODP and you do not have your plane done....Rhonda "tanning" your hide in July is going to be the least of your problems!

HPA
PS................... I'm back!

I don't even know how to reply to that!

I was a great party, wasn't it! Thanks to all who contributed to the chaos and to those who couldn't make it because of other commitments - you missed a good one. And to those who were absent because of illness, I wish a speedy recovery.

.....and yes, I realize I need to get my project completed or face severe retribution from multiple sources!

Good afternoon, all

Doug Cox's current project is the 'EMMA' Triplane, featured in the 1979 BBC miniseries "Flambards". Essentially a fantasy scale 1911-ish plane designed by the late Dave Boddington for the show. Couple pics of the mini-series subject (I don't have a good photo of Doug's model - but he's pretty much got the fuselage and tail-feathers built).

Won't take up more on Art's thread - I'll try to get some good pics of this project when I'm next down in Zinzinnati after the holidays.

Helen and I got to Art and Rhonda's castle a bit late, and missed taking any serious pictures. Only one I managed to snag was of King Arthur knighting Sir Gregory of Sopwith for successfully completing the "Five Consecutive Landings with No Bounces to the King's Satisfaction" challenge:

This was followed by a lengthy discussion on the merits of various metals and their applicability in the King's landing gear (I think the consensus was that soft and bendy was bad).

A great party, bye the bye, and Art's 1/2 Nieu.11 is looking pretty good, too!!

Best regards,

Lee McD

Thanks Lee. My thread is your thread - post what you will ............

Progress is beginning anew ..........

Need a special servo mount for an unusual location? Here is one way to accomplish this task.

This mount is for the aileron drive rod which goes through the top deck and engages the aileron torque tube in the upper wing. One for each aileron.

The base of the mount is quarter inch lite ply - the rails are 3/8" square bass wood - tri stock is also bass wood - and the side gussets are 1/8" lite ply.

C'mon Doc, you're only in Texas. Art had a guy come 4,000 miles (all the way from the UK) for the party this year.

Great party Art and Rhonda! Kathy and I had a good time.

Its only 4000 miles from the UK to Arts place!!! Seems like it should be more. When I was stationed there it seemed like it took about a day for the flight.lol

Turtle Report:

Rear formers have been adjusted (many times) and the stringers have been cut to length.

I have also been playing around with the landing gear.......nothing positive or worth showing at this point.....maybe later

You go Art. The control runs look like you're getting them all lined out.

SNAIL REPORT:

I have been working the past couple of weekends and haven't accomplished much on the build and on top of that, the landing gear has been kicking my butt! I have been advised to put it aside for a while and get on with the rest of the build before the flying season gets into full swing.

Good advice.

So I have laid out the left panel of the top wing and am figuring out what wing parts I haven't cut yet........

Turtle Report:

Ribs, spars, trailing edge and leading edge glued up.

The leading edge was a little tricky to get in place and then to keep it there while it was being glued up, so I came up with several T-pin/rubber band clamps. These worked great!
Medium CA (Balsa USA brand) was used with a little kicker in a few places.

I have a few rib doublers to cut, spar fillers to fabricate and a couple of specialized hardwood pieces to cut and shape.

Then the spar fillers will be added, followed by the shear webbing and then the cap stripping.

Hello Art,

Wild Bill here. You are going to trust HPA with your landing gear. You are a brave sole. LOL. Good luck on your build, looks great so far. I hope our paths cross this summer.
