Turtle Report:
The aileron is permanently hinged, the pins which control the end play are installed, the aileron crank is glued and pinned onto the torque tube. Next is the spar fill, root ribs, pilot cut out and sundry other items in the center section.
Then the same for the other wing.
Thanks Jim. Its good to be back.

There was no article as such, just the cover pic & a few details.
It's 132 inch span, weighs 44 pounds & is powered by a 160cc (9.7 cu in) 2 stroke lawn mower engine.
Scaled from the Proctor plans, spruce/ply construction & covered in SolarTex.
The pic was from a google search for RCM April 1994. I could scan & post the magazine cover if you
need it.
John.

ART!.....I got nothing.....
44lbs!? maybe KILOS!
I cant even build a 1/3 scale @ 44lbs!
Anyhoo...Keep up the good pace. Believe it or not , you have motivated Jeff Cutter to get back on his DH9 and he motivated me to finish the JW pup... so keep the shop sawdust flying!
Talk to you soon about HDP,

Perhaps Ozian pounds are like the exchange rate? Just say'n.
and a large flywheel/magneto.
By another strange coincidence Victa also made light aircraft.

Question - Do turtles hibernate? At the rate I'm going I certainly hope not
At any rate I have added a couple more pieces to the mix. A block of hardwood (cherry) which serves as an anchor point for the rear wing joinery bracket. A balsa wedge securing the aileron crank frame to the wing rib.
In an attempt to stiffen the root rib I have added a lite ply doubler. After the remaining cap strips are added there will be a Baltic birch ply root rib cap added. Hopefully this lamination will be sufficient to keep the covering from pulling the root rib inward.

Hi Doc. Yes, a little bit ...... I guess it's time for the sometimes scheduled -
Turtle Report:
The capstrips have been added to the top and bottom and the root rib has been epoxied in place.
The left wing panel is back on the board. The end play pins and aileron hinges are permanently installed.
Next the aileron crank will be epoxied and pinned to the torque tube followed by all the rest of the stuff, same as the right wing panel.
Later,
Art

A model airplane is made of many pieces and parts. Aileron crank epoxied and pinned to the torque tube, spar filler and a couple more ribs. Eventually I will have a flying model ....... ....... I think.

Hey Bill
Good to hear from ya'. That's what happened last year - spring caught me by surprise and the project wasn't finished (and the year before and the year before that, too!). Its funny how some of these projects can go on for years (or sad, really). Gotta finish this winter
Cheers,

Ray Clarke built that Nieuport, actually more than one at half scale. A master metal worker, he hand formed the cowl. Ray also built a couple of 1/3-scale Ryan STAs with riveted metal fuselages. One of his more recent projects is a 17.
