Evening, all
First off, abject apologies to all for being offline for far too long - been a way too busy month on stuff not remotely Dawn Patrol related . . .
I'll go back and address specific questions in a moment, but first off, here's the stuff you've all been waiting for. We now have all the forms on this year's event on the Air Force Museum's website (we were the stragglers) - located at:
http://www.nationalmuseum.af.mil/fac...t.asp?id=21413
Three forms for the R/C Participants are the R/C Registration Form:
http://www.nationalmuseum.af.mil/sha...140324-008.pdf
The Museum's Participants Agreement Form:
http://www.nationalmuseum.af.mil/sha...140306-062.pdf
AND if you are camping on site, the Overnight Camping Form:
http://www.nationalmuseum.af.mil/sha...140306-063.pdf
= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
Additional information packets on DPR'14 include the Museum's Welcome Letter:
http://www.nationalmuseum.af.mil/sha...140306-066.pdf
The Overall schedule of activities:
http://www.nationalmuseum.af.mil/sha...140306-067.pdf
Hotels and rental car info:
http://www.nationalmuseum.af.mil/sha...140306-068.pdf
(Note that the magic word is "Dawn Patrol" when asking about rates, even if the hotel is specifically mentioned).
And there are a few other links on the Museum's website showing maps to the venue and such.
= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
Couple more links for funsies.
The Museum has released a "teaser" video of the event up on YouTube:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sFuYAxS9tDk
And if you're real alert, you'll notice an R/C plane or two at the 0:24 mark!! As well as a half-scale Fokker doing it's thing at the end prior to the closing credits.
Myself, I'm biased towards a little video produced by the pride of the Hoosier Dawn Patrol, Sir Percy himself - the 2009 Dawn Patrol Rendezvous "Review of the Threes":
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IZ-bGJhbu5M
This one gives a little taste of the flying site (and towards the end, why we're excited to be moving a bit stage left away from the trenches!!).
Again, sorry for the delay in getting all this out - we'll try and keep everyone up to speed here on out.
Very best regards,
Lee McDuffee

Got it...the check is in the mail!
I noticed on the registration form that each model needed to be described as "Entente or Central Power". Technically, the US entered the war as neither of those.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Allies_of_World_War_I
The U.S. entered the war as an "associated power", rather than a formal ally of France and the United Kingdom, in order to avoid "foreign entanglements".[SUP][4]
[/SUP]
Now I just need to keep my planes in one piece between now and September.

Well crap. The links to the USAF web site aren't working today.
Swell - links worked fine yesterday . . . wonder what we did for raw aggravation prior to the internet and computers . . .
I'll be working on email mailings tonight and tomorrow night, which will have the forms attached (in case the Museum's website doesn't cooperate again). Suspect either an update taking place, or heavy traffic.
Meanwhile, questions have been asked, and as always, Art nailed the answers (he is the wise King, is Arthur).
Billy, most definitely we want to see your 1/2 scale Camel at DPR'14 - with all the 1/2 Triplanes being built (according to all the coorespondence I've been seeing) it's gonna be a target-rich environment. You just might want to consider painting your Sopwith in the markings of W.G. Barker ( http://www.cbrnp.com/profiles/quarte...kers-camel.htm ).
JeffEE, fear not - we have plenty of need for quarter scales (all scales, really) - aside from escorting (or harrassing, depending upon your markings) Jim's fabulous Gotha, we also like the 1/4 and 1/5th scales to be used during the dread barrage balloon mission (weather and balloon pending, or course).
I'm actually hoping to have several themed sessions (at least the start of the session) with groups of like planes during the event - an obvious one being Half Time (for the 1/2 scale models). Typical scheduled flying slots are an hour and a half for the full-scale planes, then 45 minutes for the R/C models. My plan would be to dedicate the first 15-20 minutes to a theme several times per day, with the rest of the time slot open - we did that in 2009 with the Threes (1/3 scale models).
This of course is all predicated on the schedule going smoothly, which due to weather in 2009 and 2011 it didn't - the flying schedule those DPRs went right in the trashbin almost from gitgo, and R/C ended up filling in almost every morning until the ceiling was high enough for the full-scales to do their thing.

NEW FOR 2014
= = = = = = = = = = = = = =
Veterans of previous Dawn Patrols will note a definitely different schedule, particularly nightly, for 2014. Highlights of the significant changes are:
a) Thursday is the first offical arrival day for all participants (full-scale, R/C, reenactors, etc). We're planning on being there already to get registration and such going as quickly as possible. There will definitely be flying opportunities on Thursday, spread around full-scale arrivals and any last minute field maintenance, etc.
b) We will NOT be doing the "Meet and Greet" in the Museum on Thurday night, as there is another group (bunch of WWI historians, apparently) occupying that space. Instead, the "WWI Hangar Party" will take place on Friday night.
c) Friday afternoon is going to feature a "Dress Rehearsal" as well as a "Media Op" with ALL participants. We'll do what we can to hide Paul during all this . . .
d) The Banquet will not be on Saturday night this year - instead there is going to be an on-field dinner - no details just yet, but it does mean we won't need to leave the field (and flying) Saturday until dark.
e) The Banquet will be Sunday night in the Museum - one of the Museum's primary goals for DPR'14 is that Sunday be as active for visitors as Friday or Saturday. In past years almost everyone used Sunday as a travel home day, meaning visitors mid-afternoon got to see pretty much nothing. They've therefore moved the event ending Banquet to Sunday night, with a request that everyone use Monday as their travel home day.
= = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
And finally, when you fill out the entry form, you'll notice the "Entente or Central Powers" selection. This is how we split the field up when selecting the Best Ofs. So if you're aircraft is modeled after one of the nations who supported the Triple Entente (Great Britain, France and Russia), you're Entente. If your one of the Central Powers (Germany, Austria-Hungary, Ottoman Empire, Bulgaria), then that's what you circle. Neutral and non-committed parties will need to declare which side they're on - so if you're bringing a Swedish Thulin, a Swiss Hanriot, or a Polish Nieuport you've gotta make a decision. Remember, if you're not with us, your against us!! (we just ain't saying which is us is all!!!).
Very best regards,
Lee McDuffee

{Trumpets playing in the back ground}. To King Art, HPA, Sir Steve, and all WW-1 aficionados:
let's not forget the "Cup Cake Queen" and the Mid-Atlantic Dawn Patrol (Mad). Oct 1-5 2014. 5 days of flying RC. Full scale will also add to the mix on Sat/Sun at military aviation Museum VA Beach. Details in my signature link.
Some of our TRC gang trying to make the Ohio events.
Kirk, I have not flown with you since WOD. Your white tripe and my black Fokker D-7 and touched wings as we did the formation flyby's. what a hoot!

Your event is also highly anticipated, and I'm hoping to be able to make it (I'm actually hoping to make it through Dayton!) - I know that last year it was very highly anticipated by Art and his Missus (Rhonda telling everyone that she didn't care if Art was going on not, SHE was going).
I will be sending out with my emailing on DPR'14 a list of ALL Dawn Patrol Fly-Ins that I've managed to track down for 2014 and one already scheduled for 2015 - I have it at no less than 22 Dawn Patrol-themed R/C events in the U.S. this year, plus a couple that haven't posted dates for their event yet. As soon as I can I'll be update my own webpage on these.
'til later,
Lee McDuffee

Photo shopped............. Photo chopped.......I'm calling schinangings!............no way Art is getting lined up on my tail!
And as for the boys at Virginia and the C.C. queen...do not worry about Lee and Doug making it for your event.....After the emotional trauma inflicted by ODP at Dayton...
there is no way they will be able to travel of at least 2 months!!!
Luv,
HPA
