Actually he didn't hurt the SSWDIII that time. But Greg accused him of wanting the pole dancing trophy back.

I flew the heck out of the SSW at ODP but I had two dead sticks with it. I was in a touch-and-go contest with Art and Sean (we much have done 20 each!) and the engine hiccupped on the last touchdown so I stopped. On another flight Dave Johnson (the model's designer) was flying it and doing a big descending circle and the engine quit. He had to land it in the rough grass. It flipped over and damaged the rudder but I was able to patch it up and fly again. Later I was flying formation with Andy and Art and the engine quit again. I had to land in the fresh cut hayfield and the plane rolled right towards the windsock pole. It didn't actually hit it but it rolled into the tall grass around the pole and tipped on it's nose...no damage. That was late Saturday and I decided to call it quits for the weekend. Can't complain, the Siemens is a great flying plane and I put in lots of flights with it. Back at home I found that the fuel tank was shoved forward and down at the front, which was causing the engine to quit after a certain amount of fuel was used.
I should know by now to check the fuel tank and plumbing after a model flips over!

Now, the Nieuport is a different story: That was a spectacular mid-air. It was like the planes were hit by a SAM! It was probably my own fault for doing an Immelmann and ending up opposite the pattern. It makes me wonder how in competitions 4 or 5 planes are flying all different maneuvers in different directions and they rarely hit! The rear fuselage and tail is still intact so I'm going to Frankenstein a new front end on and build new wings. That was a sweet flying model too so I gotta do it again!

Jim, that was a nice smooth deadstick landing and always great to see the SSW in the air.

Many thanks to the Cincinnati club, ODP organizers, and a lot of great sponsors (really appreciate the dummy UR2 engine from Ziroli Plans!)
Lots of really good memories from this one.

This next post are awards of another kind!...............The kind you really don't want to win...........LOL!

Quick recap on the "Greg Emerick" award.......
2012 Greg hit a pole with his 1/3 scale pup and started this prestigious award!
2013 award went to Jim Sushy for "plowing" his bomber into the pit area @ Hoosier
2014 award went to me......" Life Time Achievement award " .......................I know ....really?...........I don't see it.....LOL!
2015 Still up for grabs........or is it? There was one pilot at ODP that went against the pattern and ended up in a spectacular head on mid-air crash!...THEN he takes his other plane and cart-wheeled it in the farmers field for a "Hole -in one" leaning up against flag post....LOL!

To protect the innocent ....I will not use last names.........Jim is in the middle and he looks like a 2015 ringer!

Hey Jim!....Luv ya mean it!

Well now lets see Jim........
In order to put you out of the hunt for the GEEA.... Someone would have to have a massive fuel leak on take off and catch fire in flight...then lose control and smash into the windshield of Arts and Rhondas van!!!........................that would still consitute a tie....the tie breaker would be if Art van then bursted into flames!

HPA
You keep this pace up Jim....you will be #2 on the life time achievement award........

Don't be so hard on Jim. Let's open it up HPA... if anybody does all those things & hit's anybody's van, that would constitute a tie!
