Upon examination of the photo and flight log evidence, I had 2 airplanes at 2004 HDP . A BUSA Fokker D-VIII,and a BUSA Bristol Bullet. I still have both, fly them at least once a year, but seldom take them to Dawn Patrols anymore.
Ok, now, who flew and what did you fly in the first HDP. AND, is it still around??

This BUSA EIII was built by Art Shelton, and I obtained it (a drama in it's own right) in 2003 and I flew it in the 2004 HDP.
This was the result of a mid-air at the Johnson Co. RC Fliers warbird event a couple of years later. It was spectacular! (You should have seen the other guy). I gave the remains to Russ Kuhn.
Russ Kuhn rebuilt the wreck, and had it originally in Turkish markings. (testflight sans cowl)
Russ has since repainted it in attractive German Naval marking from WW1.

I have just found out, that on Saturday, National Model Aviation Day, The AMA will be charging $3/car to attend their events, which will all be around the headquarters building and museum. If you arrive on Saturday, just tell them you are a HDP Participant and they will let you in free. I have attached a window sign for you to print and display on your dash to help

Thank you again Sir Percy for hosting another great HDP. Great fiends and beautiful aircraft.
The skies were fantastic for flying and photos on Friday. On my second flight with the Taube, I cut it short just because I wanted to take advantage of the deep blue skies. Unfortunately, I spent a lot of time that afternoon working on the EIV, and probably missed some good pics.
The flight line was packed. 46 pilots registered and 75 aircraft.
Jim Suchy's new 1/3 DH2.
Russ Kuhn's German Navy Eindecker. Great color scheme.
Andy Marone's 1/3 Albatros
Great smoke from the Nieuport 17.
Greg Emerick's 1/3 Pup shooting "Bumps and Circuits". I'd challenged Greg to touch down between the lines and he did. I was slow on the shutter though.
Greg Hahn's 1/4 DVII with hand painted Lozenge camo.
Maxford Jenny.
David and Goliath. No, Dale and Goliath, No, David Gibson and Dale Locander.
Two gorgeous 1/3 Albis.
Norm Kaz's 1/4 DVII
Barn Swallows joined in on the fun.
Art Shelton's 1/3 Dr1
Jim Suchy's big Gotha. 192" span.

Jim was extremely fortunate to land his Gotha safely after a dummy exhaust manifold came off in flight and shattered the prop on the left engine. Pilot skill had a lot to do with it as well.
Greg Emerick's 1/3 Pup
A bitter-sweet moment was Art Shelton and Herman Cholewinski flying together for perhaps the last time. Art, his Dr1 and Herman, his Nieuport 17. Herman is moving to Florida in a few weeks. They have been flying Dawn Patrol "Missions" since 1996.
Here's a bit on that history:

And finally...... We need some captions for this photo.
Here's a link to a slide show of the whole album if you're interested. http://s39.photobucket.com/user/mbea...0Dawn%20Patrol
Thanks for looking!

I do have one more to add. Although these were taken at the 2013 Ohio Dawn Patrol, I didn't get around to getting it printed and given to Norm Kaz last year. I did get an 11x14 printed in Muncie Saturday (thanks Jack's Camera) and gave it to he and Gloria.
This is Norm's 1/3 scale DVII. Every once in a while I'm able to take a series of photos (like this wing over) under ideal conditions, and then PhotoShop them into a cool image like this.

Here's something fun to do the next time you're at a fly-in. Go find one of your flying buddies, in this case I found Greg Hahn, and ask him if he wants to go around the patch in formation.
Then ask, "How about a couple of touch & go's in formation?" Of course you gotta try both directions, right?
"Hey Greg, do that again, but make sure you're in close to our side of the runway."
"What am I going to do? Don't worry, just make sure you're in!"
Greg: "What the - - - - - !"
Art: " Yeah! Fun, wasn't it? OK, now change directions - Greg .......GREG! you're still with me, right?"
I'm in this time.
Now the next time you're in and I'm out.
Hey, that was fun! Time to land?
Sometimes you just can't have too much fun!
Thanks Greg, that flight was a hoot!
