Black Star Dawn Patrol - October 18-19, 2014
Held annually in the fall, the Black Star Dawn Patrol is California's premier World War I Dawn Patrol (and sometimes Golden Era) fun fly. Be prepared to get up close and personal with some amazing airplanes, enjoy great food, and hang out with the best group of people enjoying the same wonderful hobby as you. For 2014, the Black Star Dawn Patrol has been expanded to two days (October 18 & 19) and will again be held at Black Star Field in Irvine, CA. In recognition of the 100th anniversary of the start of WWI, the 2014 Black Star Dawn Patrol will also include balloon busting contests, antique autos, period re-enactors, fly-bys of full-scale WWI aircraft, flight simulators, static displays of models under construction, a swap meet, great food, and even an exhibition of scale RC tanks and armored vehicles!
The event is open to all classes of airplanes from electric foamies and ARFs to giant scale, museum-quality gas burners. This year we're also introducing the Black Star Squadron consisting entirely of 1/4 scale and larger Sopwith Pups. A group of local modelers is madly scrambling to get their Pups finished in time for the Dawn Patrol. If you already have a Pup of this size, bring it along and you're in the squadron!
