I received an e-mail from National Balsa this morning. She said they were cutting my kit as she typed and that they had been delayed due to the winter storm. She said my kit would ship today or tomorrow. Looks like it will most likely be early next week before I receive the kit.
Just as well I am still not feeling good. My doc called me Monday with the results from my x-rays and I have pneumonia. They changed my meds but this stuff will kick your butt and it is hard to get rid of. Hopefully I feel like digging into it once it arrives.

Well good old UPS updated the tracking information and changed the delivery date to Monday. Looks like a coupe more days of rest are in order.
I did receive shipment confirmation of the fiberglass parts and Abell Hobby will be shipping the landing gear tomorrow.

Dave at the pace you build I would be afraid of termites.
Severe boredom has set in, I have been researching and reading up on the Stinson a lot over the past week. A very interesting aircraft and will be fun to detail out. At 1st glance the plane looks very simple. Once you really start looking at the plane there are a lot of little details that give the plane a lot of character. A full interior is going to be difficult to replicate in this plane due to having to work thru the open doors and windows after the fuse is framed up. An interesting detail on the full scale aircraft is it had windows that rolled up and down just like a car. The plane also has retractable landing lights in the bottom of the wings.
A note on the plans: The plans contain one left wing panel and the right side of the stab and elevator. Since I made copies of the plans to build on and save the originals I printed a mirror image of the wing and stab/elev plan. This allowed me to join the 2 stab/elev plan halves together and make the build of the tail surfaces a bit more straight forward. This will also allow me to build the right wing panel over the plan instead of relying on just marking rib locations on the right spars from the left wing plan.
To get an idea of the size of the plane the Stab has a span of almost 43". Very large for a single engine 1/4 scale plane.
My laser cut kit is sitting in a UPS dispatch garage about 15 miles from the house. So close yet so far.

It sounds like you are developing a good work progression, Anthony.
When I did the interior for my Hostetler Cessna 195, I did much of it before I completed the fuselage. This made it easier to make the side panels, and to get an accurate template for the carpeting.
Once you dig into building your Stinson, you may find errors and omissions in the plans. My 195 had this problem, but nothing was insurmountable.

Good idea on the side panels, I will lay them out before joining the halves.
There are a few areas on the Stinson that are a bit vague. Wendell was very helpful in explaining his intent via e-mail. Very well drawn plans but leaves a lot to the imagination for sure.

Anthony,
Just found your thread. Beautiful bird you will have.
Check the plans for square and straight or true. My GRL plans had a couple of issues
Will be cool to see this one come to life. I was thinking the same as Tom.
Work up the interior before assembling the fuse.
A dressed out cabin would be very cool .

Dave,
The Stinson I am modeling has a very nice interior. Almost too nice as it is going to be a bear to duplicate. I did find a couple low resolution shots of the interior online but also Bob Banka's Aircraft Documentation has a 33 pic Photo Pack of the plane with interior and exterior detail shots. I have a feeling working with vinyl at 1/4 scale is going to be a chore to get it to look right. I have a feeling I will be needing help from the wife on the interior. Her sewing skills are far superior to mine.
I keep forgetting to call the order in for the photo pack. Will try to remember to do that Monday.

I believe the interior was an upgrade.
The SR-10 had many variants that ranged from 4-5 passenger versions with different engine combinations as well. This particular plane is owned by David Oreck (Oreck Vacuum Cleaners) and he has a fine collection which is for sale. I am hoping to find out when the latest restoration was completed and what colors were used during the restoration. The instrument panel is also loaded with modern upgrades. Modern radio and GPS.
I have a feeling getting in direct contact with David Oreck will be mission impossible, my only hope is to find someone familiar with the plane. I will wait to see what info I can gather from the Photo Pack.

That is nice! Good luck with that.
For my Stinson, since I am going with the Pepsi motif, I was able to locate the original plane. I have tried contacting the owners but haven't had any luck yet. Actually I haven't tried that hard. But, since I am not going all out on scale accuracy with this build, I may just fake it. In fact that's really what I'm doing now.
Oh, one other thing, I did check for termites... nothin' yet!

I found this old thread on RCU when I first started researching building this plane. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/gian...ld-2008-a.html
I am not sure if the plane ever got finished, the plane was sold from one modeler to another as it reached the covering stage. It looks like the builder did a nice job and I will be referencing that build as needed. I do like the lightening holes that were added to the tail surfaces and I will follow suit on my build as well.
If anyone knows the status of the model in the other thread please post.

I have a PCK Stinson SR 10 with full plans and fiber glass master cowl, leggings and wheel pants for sale. I also have a new in box DLE 110 to go with it -Hostetler's advice on engine to use. . Closest to $1500 can have it.. Let me know . Shipping is at cost, ConUS only. My handicap precludes me from building it.

Anthony,
Tomorrow is the big day is it? (Which will be today by the time you read this.) Can't wait to see how big a box it is.

Yes to day is the day the kit arrives,
1st I have to go get a nuclear stress test done. This is supposed to take 3-4 hrs. As long as everything goes OK I should be the UPS guy home.

3-4 hours sounds about right.
