Dear Bob Cole,
First and foremost ...thanks for building the D7.
Six hours before you arrived....the plane did not have a scratch on it...
I was provoked by the other pilots to do "single wheel" touch and goes and I believe that is when the wheel fell off.... .....going about 50mph
And you will see later that I had to ditch the plane in the weeds... (out of gas) because I was on my 6th "go around" trying to land tandem with ART
And then I believe you were there ...when that Yellow Jenny clearly came after me Unprovoked!.
It was great to see you and it was great to see you fly your ole plane.
Cheers,
HPA

ALERT! ALERT! ALERT!
There was theft at the Ohio Dawn Patrol
One of our club members Karen Mienhart had made brownies and cupcakes for a fund raiser for Saturday and they went missing before the Saturday reveal.............
The theft we believed happened around 10:30 pm on Friday
Luckily for us we had a "deer camera " in the tree by where the theft took place.....
As soon as I can get the pics of the perp downloaded from the camera I will post them and please respond with his name so we can take appropriate action.......
Stay tuned...

Some more pictures:
Ed Gross brought a beautiful Fokker Eindecker E1. He was kind enough to let Keith Zimmerly and me fly it. Wow what a nice flying model! Much better than my old E1.
You will notice if you zoom in on the backs of our shirts that some of our missing comrads were at least here in spirit even though they didn't make the trip in person.
I am wearing a Hammer Field T-shirt and Ed is sporting a MAD Patrol T-shirt. I know our Arkansas brother, Dale Locander, and his wife have changed their employment situation and could not find the time to make the trip. As for our Virginia Beach brethren, we lost contact with them a few weeks before the event and could not ascertain their status. We hope you are safe and please know that you were sincerely missed.

Art,
Was great seeing everyone and even greater having you and Keith fly the E1. I know it was my turn to fly it but to be honest, was too tired and too hot. Not a good combination. The flying lesson Keith provided me was invaluable in my understanding on how to fly classic WW1. I'll have my mode 2 transmitter at the MAD and let you fly it again; if you want to.
Great Event!! Cincinnati Aeromodlers. Thank you for making this happen. I sure plan on being there next year.

This was a grand occasion for me, seeing my third scale Nieuport 11 design in the air - times 3.
Barry Vogel is flying the Belgium comet, Martin Justus has the Italian with the comic face and mine has the Belgium colors with no personal markings.
We're gonna have to do this again!

Paul,
I sure am glad I came Sat, I really had a good time. I appreciate you letting me fly my ole plane...It flies great. The damage was a little disheartening, but it gives it character.
As we all know... if you fly'em then they're going to get a little damage sooner or later.
I enjoyed watching you and the yellow Jenny go at it... that was exciting!!
Are you sure you want to miss HDP this year?

Thanks for posting the photos Art, nice shots by Rhonda, as always! (you can see in those photos the amount of up elevator trim I need to carry, similar to Jim's DH2, the tail wants to float up).
That must be cool seeing your Nieuport 11 design chosen & produced by other excellent modelers.
A huge thanks to the Ohio Dawn Patrol crew who puts this event on. There must be close a dozen volunteers on that team; the event, the venue, & the hospitality (food!) is great! I had a great time flying & hanging out with the gang. I was thrilled to get my 1/4 scale DH2 out to her first dawn patrol & she went up with the dawn flight on Saturday! She got 5 flights on Saturday & this weekend my 14 year old Eindecker got a few flights as well (old reliable!). A very successful event!
ODP Crew: Thanks for a great weekend!!!

A few more pictures I took at ODP. I'm sure others with better lenses will post more interesting shots than these but here they are. Note the size of the "campfire". You'd need 30 foot poles to make any S'mores!

WOW! I want to THANK everyone who came to the ODP party. I really really had a good time...I hope you did too.
It is Tuesday morning and I am now just starting to get enough energy to unpack the trailer.
Man can you people EAT! On Saturday night dinner.....We served you all the smoke pork you could carry, corn on the cob, green beans,
huge baked potato, dinner roll....and then we went around and served you some heavy ass brownies ...TWICE....
And when Chris Newport said he still had 4 large "Peach cobbler" pots cooking in the ground and 4 gallons of ice cream?
I felt bad for him...all his effort for nothing...these people were stuffed!.........And out of nowhere! There was one ole hansum devil that led the charge to stretch his belly to its bursting point!....Yes sports fans ...I am talking about...SAM PARFIT!! As I sat at the end of the serving table with my ice cream scooper in hand...Sam was the first of many... that came up and "unhindged there lower jaw" to fit one more thing thru there pie hole.......WOW! I am thinking now ...if I had given them "one more teennie wiennie little waffer" KABOOM! Half of the Dawn Patrollers would of been gone FOREVER! LOL!
Just getting started......

Wow what a great event. So sorry I missed it and thus I could not have "acquired" the cupcakes!
I flew the week before at Warbirds over Delaware with Mike Gross Sr. and Jr. A great time and looks like we started a Friday Dawn Patrol at for future years.
Unfortunatly work had me on travel with couple days of USN training meetings in Dahlgren Va. I drove home Friday night and thus could not make it to ODP. Today I'm hearing more meetings scheduled on 30-31 July so Long Island Dawn Patrol is looking like a bust too. Holy cow work can blow at times. Only 6 more years and work will be a closed chapter for me, I hope.

So good to see all the Usual Dawn Patrol suspects! You look like you were having a blast.
great to see Ed and Joe attend with Ed's new Eindecker. He pitted next to me at MAD patrol and I really enjoyed talking and swapping war stories with them both.
Also missed the famous John and John dynamic duo from Georgia. Perhaps December at Southern Dawn Patrol.
See you all soon, somewhere on the western front I hope.
